Cappellini Cloud Bookcase

4967

The Cappellini Cloud Bookcase is described as a “white polyethylene modular double-sided bookcase”, which may be a technically accurate description, but does nothing to convey the sheer fun of this piece.

Each component is cloud-shaped and when connected together to fill a whole wall, you could quite imagine that you are on the set of a vintage Sci-Fi film. The original white version is undoubtedly the most stunning, but it is also available in red and two shade of green.

You can buy the Cloud Bookcase online from Nest priced around £815 or for one with lights, the price doubles.

Alexander Girard Quilts

Agirardduvet

As signalled a few weeks ago, the Alexander Girard collection is now available from the USA Urban Outfitters website. Amongst the cushions and prints, there are also three styles of Alexander Girard Quilts.

The Multiform Quilt (pictured here) probably best illustrates Girard’s use of pattern, bold colours and folk art. The reverse of the quilt features his 1953 pattern “Double Triangles” so you get two classic designs for your money. There is also the Eden duvet decorated with his 1966 garden-inspired print and the Alphabet duvet which highlights his work with block lettering.

The quilts are available in a choice of two sizes, priced $148 for the single and $168 for the double. Matching pillows are available for $48. Visit the Urban Outfitters website to buy.

Kings Road Dessert Plates

P81022002

Hot on the heels of the union jack design in growing popularity is the regal crown motif. Following the crown hook we featured recently, comes these Kings Road Dessert Plates by Rosanna.

Sold in sets of four, each one has a different crown design on it in metallic gold. The gold does mean that they aren’t suitable for use in the microwave, but frankly these are too attractive for merely covering with food.

They can be bought online from Lavish Giving priced $40 (around £27). The site also sells matching mugs and teapot.

Retro Patterned Storage Jars

Set-of-three-bright-ceramic-storage-jars-3003429-0

These Retro Patterned Storage Jars are a great way to quickly inject a bit of colour and retro style into your kitchen.

Sold as a set of three, each jar has stripes, random dots and more op-art style circles in various bright colours. They measure 15cm high by 11cm deep and have airtight lids. They are great for storing tea, coffee or sugar, although I’m not too sure about the suggestion of biscuits as I think my biscuits need a bit more space!

They cost £30 from The Contemporary Home website.

Frédérique Morrel Trays

Fredmorreltray

Like a growing number of designers, Frédérique Morrel incorporates vintage materials in new products.  The idea is not only environmentally-sound, but it produces some great designs, such as  Frédérique Morrel's Trays.

The trays have been created by hot-pressing vintage materials into resin.  Vintage tapestry and lace doilies, which are both enjoying a comeback right now, feature heavily in the designs, along with pieces of vintage newspaper and magazine print.

Prices are not listed on the designer's website, but one online stockist, Kirk Gallery has a selection priced between $40 and $96 (around £30 to £75).  To view more examples, find stockists in your country or to order directly from the designer, visit the  Frédérique Morrel website.

1930s Notices from New York

30snotices

Retro-style signs are easy to find, but Pedlars has just acquired a stock of the real thing – 1930s Notices from New York.

Like their modern imitators, their appeal is part nostalgia and partly the fun of using them out of context.  Hang the "Please Don't Write on our Tables" or "All Bills Paid Weekly" signs above your desk.  The "Hair and Beaty Treatments" sign could be hung in the bathroom or above a dressing table.

They are vintage so some are unique, whereas others they have in a small quantities.  As you would expect from something around 70 years old, they are showing some signs of wear, but that only adds to their character.  The notices are sold framed, priced £125.  Visit the Pedlars website to view the whole stock.
