Zoom-like Rocket Ice Lolly Necklace

Zoomnecklace

The Zoom was introduced by Lyons Maid in the spring of 1963 and was a tie in with the Steve Zodiac Fireball television series. It featured distinctive horizontal sections in lime, lemon and strawberry flavours.

I haven’t seen one for years, but Punky Pins have immortalised this retro ice lolly in necklace form as part of their summer collection. They are just calling it a Rocket Ice Lolly Necklace but it is most definitely modelled on the Zoom.

It measures 9cm high and comes on a silver-plated ball chain. It costs £15 from Punky Pins.

Sergio Rodrigues Poltrona Mole Chair

Mole

Designs from Europe and in particular Scandinavia tend to dominate this site at times and that can’t be helped as those places have produced some amazing designs. But for a change, here is a piece of retro design from Brazil.

Sergio Rodrigues is considered to be one of the founding fathers of Brazilian design and the Poltrona Mole is his most famous creation. Meaning “soft armchair”, it was originally designed in 1957, but with a few changes it won 1st Prize at the IV Concorso Internazionale del Mobile in Cantu, Italy in 1961.

The Poltrona Mole is available to order online from Brazilia Interiors, although no price is given.

Art Deco Barware from The Conran Shop

Artdecococktail

Plastic ice buckets are fun and kitsch, but if you are looking for barware with more sophistication then The Conran Shop’s Art Deco Barware range certainly provides it.

Taking its inspiration from the 1920s, the range has (excuse the pun) buckets of glamour. The series consists of an ice bucket (priced £110), a wine cooler (£95) and a cocktail shaker (£75). Each piece is silver-plated (10 micron) and double-walled for insulation.

Visit The Conran Shop to buy.

Vintage Barometers

Vintagebarometer

With the changeable weather that typifies British summer time, a Vintage Barometer could be very useful.

Pedlars currently has a selection of barometers dating from the 1940s and 1950s. They have all been restored so are in perfect working order, although whether they will be more reliable than a modern weather forecast can’t be guaranteed.

Prices start from £130. Contact Pedlars via their website for full details of the available range.

Kitsch 1950s Woman with a Television Necklace

50stvnecklaceOn another trawl through the weird and wonderful Etsy, I came across the seller Sweet Heart Sinner who produces handmade jewellery in Atlanta using a kiln and vintage pulp paperbacks. She currently has over 400 necklaces for sale but my favourite is this "1950s Woman with a Television" Necklace.

It features a picture of a woman with a space age style television, dressed in a fifties style dress. The black-finished metal pendant is approximately 2 inches by 1.5 inches and it hangs from an 18 inch long silver-tone ball chain. It costs just $7.00 (under £4).

Other designs include pin-up girls, Valley of the Dolls image and retro robots. To view the full range of necklaces, visit the Etsy store.
