Graham and Green 50s-style Dining Furniture

Arv1887_m1

Graham and Green have looked to the past for the inspiration behind the 50s-style Dining Table and Chairs recently added to their website.

Made from oak, both the table and the chair have a stylish oval shape to them that gives them a distinctively retro look. The table costs £595 and the chairs, which are sold separately, cost £160 each. Obviously that adds up to quite a bit for a full set, but if you’ve got a dining space that will do it justice, then it does look good.

Visit the Graham and Green website to order.

“1000 Chairs” by Charlotte Fiell and Peter Fiell

1000chairsHardly a week goes by without us highlighting a classic chair design, but still we are probably quite some way off having collected a thousand, which is, unsurprisingly, the number of chairs featured in the Taschen book “1000 Chairs”.

The book covers 200 years of design history and includes the work of around 400 designers, who between them have been responsible for those 1000 chairs. Each chair has a page devoted to it, with images and their history.

The paperback version is available to buy from Amazon for £5.99.

Liquorice Allsorts House

101041

Bassetts Liquorice Allsorts have been around since 1899 and are fondly remembered from many a childhood. In these days of worries about healthy eating and overweight children, here is a healthier way to introduce the sweets to a new generation – the Liquorice Allsorts House.

The set contains 25 individual soft pieces that look just like the sweets for children to use to build a house. Of course, the pieces aren’t made from sugary treats, but from foamed filled soft touch vinyl.

At just under £500, it costs considerably more than a quarter of your favourite sweets, but will last longer. It is available to buy from the Urchins website.

We’ve long been fans of the work of People Will Always Need Plates. So far, their illustrations of iconic architecture have adorned mugs, plates, bags and tea towels, but now they are available as giclee prints. It is such a good idea, you wonder why they didn’t think to do it earlier!

You can pick from any of their designs (for example, Brutalist buildings, Trellick Tower, Liverpool icons, Barbican etc) and have it made into a giclee print. There is a choice of 25 colours and you can have it made to any size. Prices range from £40 for an A3 print to £240 for a massive A0 print. Prices for non-standard sizes will be supplied upon request.

“Shoot Yr Idols” Season at ICA

Warholcamera

The ICA hosts a short season of film in August dedicated to art documentaries, entitled “Shoot Yr Idols”.

The inspiration for the season is the release of “Face Addict”, where photographer Edo Bertoglio returns to the downtown Manhattan of his past when he was party of Warhol’s Factory crowd. The screening on Tuesday 19th August will include a discussion with Beroglio.

Warhol is featured in another of the films in the series “A Walk into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory”, which focuses on the promising young filmmaker who was Warhol’s lover, but disappeared mysteriously in 1966.
