Screen-Printed Albert Armchair

AlbertchairInspired by Arne Jacobsen, the Albert Armchair is available in various guises. All of them have the same antique armchair shape in high gloss lacquered sheesham hardwood, but there is an interesting selection of screen-printed upholstery from which to choose.

The range includes a swirling blue, white pink Missoni-like pattern, a monochrome tree print or the iconic image of Marilyn Monroe’s face (pictured here).

The Albert Chairs all cost £260 from Egamma.

Robex Trifoglio Bowl

TrfogliobowlmahoganygreeThe Trifolglio Bowl is just one of many dishware items from Italian designers Robex. It has its roots firmly in the mid-century modern movement, with its innovative use of moulded plastics.

The Trifologio Bowl uses five layers of polystyrene to create a durable product that looks stunning too. The design of this particular bowl with its three sections makes it ideal for serving nibbles, chips and dips. It is available in a choice of decidedly Seventies colours, wood effect exterior with lime inside or orange exterior with lime interior.

They cost just under £12 from Optima Style. There are various other shaped bowls in the range as well.

Hans Wegner ‘Y’ Wishbone Chair

WegnerychairDanish design Hans Wegner only died in 2007, leaving behind a legacy of decades of design and dozens of chairs. Continuing to be one of his most popular designs is the Wishbone Chair which he designed for Carl Hanson & Son back in 1959.

Also known as the Y-chair (on account of the distinctive Y shape in the back rest), it is available in a choice of natural beech or black lacquer. It is probably best used as a dining chair, although its understated design mean it can be used pretty much anywhere.

It is available to buy from Modern Classics Direct for £249 which includes free delivery in the UK.

Alessi Gnam Bread Bin

Al_gnam_white_detailWe’ve featured a couple of bread bins in the past, but where those examples were more 1950s or shabby chic in their style, the Alessi Gnam Bread Bin has clearly been influenced by the space-age design favoured in the 1960s.

Designed by Stefano Giovannoni and Elisa Gargan, it is available in black, blue, or perhaps the most obvious retro choices, white or orange. Unlike traditional bread bins, its size and shape make it best suited to storing rustic oval or continental style loaves.

It costs just under £34 and can be ordered from the Beth Stevens website.

Michael Jackson Roll Cuff T-shirt

Jackson_2The rumours, scandal and cosmetic surgery of recent years have seen Michael Jackson fall from favour, but let’s gloss over that for the moment and celebrate his former glory with this cute Michael Jackson Roll Cuff T-shirt.

The white t-shirt features a sweet cartoon rendering of the superstar in what looks like his Thriller era (note the sparkly gloves). Admittedly, it could be argued that he was already past his best at this time too, but if you liked his 80s work, then this may be the t-shirt for you.

It costs £28 and is available to buy from Urban Outfitters.

Barbarella Weekender Toilet Bag

BarbarellaweekenderzoomZPM claim that their Weekenders are “beloved of travellers everywhere and seen in all the best bathrooms”. We couldn’t possibly say if this is true or not, but regardless their hanging toiletry bag is incredibly practical and comes in a several retro patterns.

Perhaps the most kitsch, but fun is the Barbarella Weekender. In hues of pink, yellow and orange, it has a cartoon of Jane Fonda’s cult character amongst rockets, moons and planets. It has five pockets inside to organise your toiletries and a swivelling hook to allow you to hang it up.

It costs £36 and can be ordered directly from the ZPM website.
