Jellio Squirt Gun Tables

Candytable_lg3Jellio’s ethos is combining childhood fun with interior design. This results in some weird and wonderful pieces of furniture that incorporates toys you’ll remember from the past.

The Candy Table is one example of their work. It is called Candy because that is what they think the effect looks like but the table top is actually filled with squirt guns. The table is made from clear acrylic with the top filled with plastic guns. It is available in various colours.

It costs $350 (approximately £170), although it isn’t clear from their website whether they ship outside of the USA.  Visit the Jelio website for further information.

Modern Retro: Living with Mid-Century Modern Style

ModernretroDespite its unwieldy title, this is a handy little book. "Modern Retro: Living with Mid-Century Modern Style" by Andrew Weaving and Nick Bingham addresses a favourite concern of ours – how to combine classic designs, junkshop gems and the best of contemporary design to create a stylish home.

Looking at products from the 1920s to the 1970s, the authors show you how to put incorporate these items in at 21st Century home.  Rather like we do at Retro To Go!

This version of the book is the compact paperbook edition, which you can carry around in your bag on shopping trips for easy reference.  It is for sale on Amazon for £5.99.  There is a hardback version available too if you would like to have it display proudly on your coffee table.

Zebedee Lamps

Dscf000311I ’ve come across several versions of the Zebedee Lamp on my internet travels recently. They are all shaped like the beloved Magic Roundabout character, a heavy steel spring with a ball light on top.

Pineapple Ice Bucket are currently selling a pair of in orange enamel for £65 (they are in a worn condition) that were made by Herbert Terry & Sons in the 1970s. A similar single lamp is also from Haus for £70.

Retro Sixty have a white version that they are attributing to German designer Maurer and dating as from the late 1960s. This one is for sale at £85 in good condition.

Retro Desk Bell

36178_1Here is an unusual and, dare I say it, useless, item – a retro Desk Bell.

Typically found on hotel reception desks, but particularly popular in old-fashioned establishments (I’m thinking 1920s, the sort of place that an Agatha Christie mystery might be set). What use you could have for this in your own home, I’m not entirely sure and no for that matter are the website selling it. Perhaps a gift for someone who frequently demand attention?

Anyway, it looks rather charming and costs just £12. It can be bought from Manufactum.
