Nike 1970s Cortez trainers in premium leather

Cortez_leather

Last week we featured the authentic reissue of the Nike Cortez complete with mesh and suede upper. If you liked the look, but wanted something a little more high end, you might want to check out the newly-launched Nike Cortez trainers in leather.

Yes, an altogether heavier variation, this take on the 1972 athletics shoe comes with a premium leather finish, both for the body of the shoe and the toe. Obviously the sole is still a lightweight synthetic number.

Two finishes available, the white with green above (which looks a little like a tennis shoe) or a dark grey and white variation, both of which sell for £49.99.

For sale: 1970s-designed Eagle House in Uckfield, East Sussex

Eagle1

It's got a bird-like name and bizarrely, the Eagle House in Uckfield, East Sussex also has a bird-like shape.

The work of renowned British architect Ian Ritchie, the house was designed for a botanist in that 'bird in flight' shape back in 1979, positioned on a large conservation site that's rich in both plants and wildlife, with woodland, specimen plants, lawn and outcrops of rock positioned around it, which also means no-one overlooks you either.

1930s Bauhaus-designed desk lamp at Skinflint Design

Bauhaus

We love reclaimed design, not only is it an eco-friendly way of kitting out your home, it's also a great of getting distinctive and classic design in your home without paying a fortune, not to mention a good way of picking up some real history. When it comes to lighting, Skinflint Design is a good place to look – and right now, we like this Bauhaus-designed desk lamp.

Specifically, this modernist desk lamp dates back to 1933 and was designed by Christian Dell, who was head of the Bauhaus metalwork department for the Kaiser Company, Neheim-Hüsten, Germany. Aside from being a great talking point, it's also a fully-functioning light, rewired with traditional cable and tested before launch.

If you want one, it will set you back £180.

Adidas Samba trainers reissued in suede

Samba_suede

The Adidas reissue program continues apace, this time with the Adidas Samba trainers in suede.

As you probably know, the Samba was developed as a hard ground football shoe in the 60s, later being used for indoor football and of course, as a casual fashion shoe predominantly in the 70s and 80s. Of course, this latest suede reissue is more casual than sportswear, available in the two bold colour schemes above, each with a vulcanised white rubber sole.

Yours for £50.

Fracap Japan mountaineering boots

Fracap

Thought the classic outdoor boot couldn't get hip? You haven't seen the Fracap Japan mountaineering boots, now available in very limited quantities in the UK via Oki-Ni.

One of those 'best kept secrets', the boots are made by hand in the small Fracap factory in Italy, then sold in limited numbers in the Japanese market. Thankfully for us Brits, Oki-Ni has stepped in and sorted out four styles for the UK market, including the one pictured above.

This particular variation offers the classic walking boot look, but with heavy duty uppers made from grainy leather, inner padding, extra-thick soles and contrasting laces sat within five d-rings and two hooks. Not cheap at £179, but these are boots that will live with you for years.
