Perfect for that late 60s/early 70s vibe, the Castore lamp is a great example of modern-day space age design.
Designed by Michele De Lucchi in 1987, the Castore is a round globe lamp with an acid etched blown glass diffuser mounted on a white zamac base, available in four sizes, from 14cm through to 42cm.
37 years after they first appeared, the Nike Cortez trainers are back on the market, looking every bit as cool in 2009.
First seen in 1972, this lightweight athlete's shoe was one of the shoes responsible for putting Nike on the map, offering a mix of mesh and suede for the upper and a lightweight synthetic sole.
The new version is true to the original, right down to a 70s-style colour scheme, throwing in a vintage effect and vintage box as a couple of finishing touches. A limited edition, you can pre-order now for £55.
No, this isn't something from the archives of Olympus, this is a very modern piece of photographic kit – the Olympus E-P1 Micro Four Thirds camera.
What's that you ask? Well, it's a new type of camera, sitting somewhere between a compact camera and a pro-friendly digital SLR – offering the lightness and portability of the former and the high-end features of the latter. The result is something that offers top-notch images without adding weight to your bag, throwing in some retro style as a much-appreciated added bonus.
If you've got any interest in 60s and 70s fashion or indeed, the woman behind one of its most iconic labels, you'll want to catch a new movie that gets its premiere at London's V&A in July – Beyond Biba.
The movie centres on Barbara Hulanicki, looking at both the past and present, from the heady days of Biba, its influence in years since and perhaps most importantly, a look at Barbara herself and how she has kept on going forward, particularly in the world of interior design, rather than simply living off past history.
Made in conjunction with the designer (and as such, with full access), the movie gets its world premiere at the V&A on July 17th at 7pm. Barbara Hulanicki will be interviewed on stage after the film. Tickets are £8 and £6 for concessions. In addition, you can buy signed film posters (signed by both Barbara Hulanicki and director Louis Price) online, limited to just 100 and available for just £10 including postage. Sounds like a bargain to us.
A relic of a bygone era will return in a slightly adapted form very soon – the 1970s Trimphone.
It's being brought back at Colloco, offering much the same in design as you probably remember from growing up, including that geometric design, the handset resting across the top of the phone and as a nice finishing touch, the centre disc for your phone number and the number of the emergency services.
This being 2009, the dial has gone, replaced with push button controls that look like a dial from a distance. After all, what would you do without that hash key? They will be available in purple, green, pink, white, turquoise and red from August, priced at £38.95 each. See over for another of the colour options.
The old meets the new with this incredibly cool Geneva Lab Model L retro-styled audio system.
At first glance, you might think this is all about the looks – and there's no denying that the vintage-style walnut veneer cabinet and chrome-plated floor stand are certainly eye-catching. But it's also a high-end piece of audio, with a mix of deep bass and crystal clear highs, along with a universal iPod dock, slot loading cd and FM radio with digital tuner, not to mention a remote to keep up with it all.
Obviously it doesn't come cheap, with prices starting at £849.
