New retro mugs from ISAK

Isak mugs

More fun and attractive retro designs courtesy of ISAK's new mugs. Sandra Isaksson's distinctive designs are as bright and appealing as ever, drawing on a range of influences.

The fish mug has a Scandinavian feel and reminds me of the New House Textile 50s herring design jar we featured a little while back, while the flower design has a similar look to all the reworked Fifties florals that have been seen recently. This design is also available on a pink background and, to complete the set, the range also includes a great pea-pod design.

Both mugs are made from bone china and, thankfully, are dishwasher safe. You can buy them for £7.25 each.

John Lewis midcentury-style Barbican sofa

Barbican

We featured the armchair in the range a short while back, but we didn't realise there was also a Barbican sofa from John Lewis, which probably has a more obviously retro look than the single-seater.

Take your pick from medium and large sizes, both with those midcentury-style splayed legs (made from oak), pleated back, slightly curved shape and upholstery in fine neutral-coloured Prescott leather.

Complete with two contrasting Andrew Martin fabric scatter cushions, it sells from £1,400.

Very Sanderson exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum

Very Sanderson exhibition

2010 is the 150th anniversary of Sanderson and an appropriate time for the Very Sanderson retrospective exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum, London.

The exhibition looks at their wallpaper and textile designs from 1860 up to the present day and so acts as a visual reminder of tastes in interior decoration, from Arts and Crafts, through to Pop and the current retro revival. The company has worked with a massive array of talented designers over its history and the exhibition includes work by people like Christopher Dresser, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Lucienne Day, Zandra Rhodes and Pat Albeck. The recent success of Fiona Howard's Dandelion Clocks design is also included in the exhibition. The array of patterns in the show are sure to inspire a spot of interior redecoration in your own home.

The exhibition is on until 13 June 2010 and entrance is £6.50 for adults.

Midcentury Modern show back in Dulwich this weekend

Midmodshow06

Fans of the mid-century look who are about in London this weekend will be delighted to hear that the ever popular Midcentury Modern show is back in Dulwich this Sunday 21 March.

Always worth a browse, the show will contain the usual mix of sellers of the real thing, ranging across furniture, textiles, art, ceramics and glass, combined with contemporary designers such as People Will Always Need Plates and Tracy Kendall whose work is sympathetic to the period.

As an added bonus, the show is held in the 60s designed concrete and glass refectory of Dulwich College, pictured. Prices range from £10 up to £5000 but bitter experience tells me that the more affordable pieces are snapped up early. The show is open from 10am until 4pm, with entrance costing £6.
