Kenneth Wingard 1950s-style Sunburst clock

Sunburst

It’s not exactly re-inventing the wheel, but there’s no denying that the Kenneth Wingard 1950s-style Sunburst clock is a stylish timepiece.

It’s more or less a carbon copy of the ones you probably remember hanging in an elderly relative’s home – originating back in the 50s, but still going strong through the 1970s.

Take your pick from large and small, with a choice of dark or light wood mixing with the brass clock face. Prices start at $70 (around £35).

Verner Panton 1970s Spy wall light

Verner_spy

If you want to add a 70s vibe to your living room, the Verner Panton Spy wall light could do the trick.

On the face of it, the Spy is a fairly unassuming wall light, as the picture on the right suggests. But turn it on and this metal and plastic hemisphere projects a weird, wonderful and probably hypnotic red light around the room, perfect as background light for those psychedelic sounds.

The light is sized around 50cm and sells for the not inconsiderable price of £948.99.

1950s East German Industrial Clock from Elemental

Ddr_clock1

Once upon a time, you had to get your hands dirty to find a vintage bargain. These days, you can browse the ever-growing number of websites devoted to salvaged gems – like Elemental, for example.

The site has a great selection of vintage items in need of a new home, everything from architectural features and signs through to lighting, seating and storage. This East German clock is just typical. A large clock (55cm diameter) in a polished steel case, it dates back to 1955 but has a look that wouldn’t have looked out of place during the earlier modernist era.

The only thing we don’t know is the price – you’ll have to drop them a line about it (and indeed any other of the items on the site).

Flos Biagio – 1960s table light for the seriously loaded

Biagio

Not just a light, a piece of high-end design – and the Flos Biagio table light has a price to match.

Designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1968, the Biagio’s body is carved from a single block of white Botticino marble, with light emanating from that helmet-like top and control via a switch on the cord.

We love the look, but we’re less keen on the price tag – a whopping £2,968.

Alvar Aalto anniversary Duo Vase

Duo_vase

How do you improve on a design classic? Well, when it comes to the Alvar Aalto Savoy Vase, you just add a bit of colour to produce the Duo Vase.

The original was designed back in the mid-1930s, named after the Savoy restaurant in Aalto’s hometown of Helsinki and still individually blown by Iittala. The Duo was made for the 70th anniversary of the first Aalto collection, mixing a pure white outside and deep red inside – adding a 70s vibe to a 30s icon.

Standing around 16cm tall, it sells for around £230.
