Eames House Bird

Eames_bird
Plenty of Eames reissues on the market, but the Eames House Bird is probably one of the strangest.

It’s not actually an Eames creation, more of an Eames find – it was just one object found by the couple on their travels, finding a place in the living room of the Eames house for the best part of 50 years.

And now this artefact has been reproduced by Vitra, made of solid alder with a black lacquer finish and steel wire legs. It retails for £94.

Muuto 70s-style Four Vase

Fourvase
A modern piece, but there’s a distinctly 70s vibe about the Muuto Four Vase.

Designed by Matti Klenell, the Four Vase is so called because it offers four ways to arrange your flowers from two separate pieces – the ball-shaped inner part holds the flowers in its four different sized openings according to the size of flower bouquet and the cylindrical outer part functions as vessel for the water.

The whole thing consists of mouth-blown glass, with a diameter of 21cm and a height of 23cm. It retails online for 119 Euros.

Alexander Begge space age Casalino Chair returns – made from original moulds

Casalino

Looking to add some classic space age design to your house? Well, you’re in luck – the Casalino Chair by Alexander Begge has been reissued. And what’s more, it has been made using the original moulds.

That means today’s Casalino Chair is effectively an original, not a reissue, so well worth investing in. Introduced in 1971, the Casalino is available in five colours (with white being the cheapest), is stackable, anti-static and weather-resistant – just as long as you don’t leave the optional padded seat out in the rain.

Each chair retails for a minimum of £210, with the coloured versions selling for between £10 and £70 extra.

Flying Saucer table lamp

Flyingsaucer

Our knowledge of space has come on leaps and bounds in the last 50 years, but our idea of what a UFO looks like is still very much rooted in 50s sci-fi movies. Something like this Flying Saucer table lamp in fact.

Indeed this lamp could have come right out of the 1950s. It’s got the flat UFO shape, which is great for diffusing the light and some small brass legs for support, all coming in at around 30cm diameter.

And if you want one, it retails for £19.99.

Asda’s budget Mode Retro cushions

Asda_budget

Another supermarket find, this time from Asda, which has introduced a Mode Retro range of cushions.

There are four designs available and shown in the picture above, the Pollock-esque Splatter print cushion, the pop art-style Letters cushion, a Mondrian-influenced Squares print and a 70s-style Embroidered Swirl cushion.

And as this is Asda, they’re all cheap – with the first three priced at £5 and the Embroidered Swirl retailing for £6.
