Marks & Spencer New Country Spot table lamp

Newcountry
A fairly cheap way to brighten up a dull corner of a room is this Marks & Spencer New Country Spot table lamp.

We like the dark wood stand and its unusual shape, as well as that shade, which has a very cool and indeed retro circular design in fabric.

The lamps stands at 55cm high and is currently available from the Marks & Spencer oline site for £39.50 – and they have free delivery as it’s over the £30 mark.

Punto It psychedelic penguin money box

Penguin_box
Not just a money box, this is a psychedelic penguin money box from Punto It.

Punto It is a Japanese designer and the penguin is one item from the Animal Bank series of money boxes created by Ideaco. Sized at 14 x 13 x 23cm, this ceramic bird has a slot to drop in your coins at the top – and hopefully a way of accessing the cash later. Let’s be honest, you won’t want to smash it open with a hammer.

Available from Paul Smith, you can pick one up for £20.

13 Amp Fuse lamp

13amp_light
In its own little way, the 13 amp fuse is something of an inconic design – just about everyone knows what one looks like. So I guess that makes the 13 Amp Fuse lamp a design classic by default?

Probably not – but it’s certainly an eye-catching light for the home. A replica of the fuse, obviously increased in size considerably (to 33.5cm x 8cm x 8cm) and now housing a bulb and diffuser, but maintaining the brown and white label and brushed steel end caps.

You can pick one up online, priced at £69.95.

Roberto Aflalo 1950s Aranha coffee table

Aranha

We have featured Brazilia Interiors previously, a company that focuses on the best design out of Brazil, both past and present – and this Aranha coffee table is certainly one of the gems from the current range.

Originally offered for sale in Brazil in the 1950s, the Aranha is a simple yet effective design by Roberto Aflalo, which sets a toughened glass on top of a sucupira base (a heavy and durable wood). There’s also room for a shelf underneath for your magazines and essentials.

This is a re-edition, not an original and it retails at a rather hefty £1950.

Albers Nesting Tables

AlbersnestingAnother astoundingly modern-looking design dating back to the Bauhaus heyday, the Albers Nesting Tables have been reissued by Vitra.

Designed by Josef Albers for the house of a Berlin psychoanalyst Fritz Moellenhaf, they combine geometric shapes with bold colours, turquoise, yellow, red and blue, lacquered underneath glass tops.

They cost £1030 from The Lighthouse. Not cheap but remember for that price, you are getting four tables, which doesn’t make it seem quite so bad!
