Phrenology Tea Towel

4dd4bfc7
It's always good to learn a new skill, so why not get to grips with phrenology whilst doing the washing up?

This 100% cotton tea towel from Corbridge based shop RE depicts a phrenology chart, used in the Victorian era as a way to predict a person's character traits based on the size and shape of their head. According to the wisdom of the day, different lumps and bumps related to an individual's personality and talents and could even be used to predict their potential success in life.

Of course the theory was later proven to have no scientifc basis but the busts and charts of the day are fascinating curios from a different age.

The tea towel costs £5 here.

Mathmos Fireflow Tea-light Lava Lamp

FIREFLOW
Mathmos Fireflow Tea-light Lava Lamp is a twist on the classic lava lamp design.

It still has the iconic rocket shape, but rather than being powered by mains or battery, the lava is heated up by a simple little tea-light. It takes about 20 minutes for the lava to warm up and get moving, but one tea-light is enough to power the lamp for 3 hours. The lamp is available with a choice of blue, pink or turquoise lava in clear liquid and costs just under £30.

Pond Street Kids Rug

Pond-street-kids-rug-flat
The Pond Street Kids Rug by the Designers Guild has a retro look that has clearly been inspired by Scandinavian folk art.

Decorated with a folk art style tree, the rug is made from 100% hand-tufted acrylic. Although intended for children’s rooms, it isn’t so childish that it couldn’t work in other rooms too. The rug measures 150 by 180cm and costs £195.
