Vans Authentic – original 1960s trainers back on the market

Vans_authentic

We saw a brief return of these last year with a premium suede finish, but the Vans Authentic are now back with a more traditional canvas upper.

First introduced back in 1966, the Vans Authentic is a classic plimsoll-like casual shoe with that canvas upper in white, coupled with a vulcanised rubber sole in a choice of colours – one is pictured above, you can check out another over the page. There's also a padded footbed, white eyelets and a waffle sole design.

If you want a pair, £35 bags you a slice of history.

Fred Perry autumn/winter range at Oki-Ni

Perry_autumn1

The sale has only been underway a matter of weeks, but over at Oki-Ni, the new Fred Perry autumn/winter stock is now online for pre-order, although you aren't likely to see most of it until September.

As you might expect, there's a mix of shirts, polo shirts, jackets, scarves and knitwear, with some hats and a rather smart vintage-style leather holdall (pictured over the page) thrown in for good measure too. The polo shirts above are also new to the range – described as Twisted Texture Knitted Sports Shirts, they're the classic 60s-style knitted polos with ribbed hem, embroidered logo and contrast detailing.

Really smart, but at £125, not exactly for everyone's budget. Check out all the new items below, along with the sale items from the current range.

Fred Perry x Tootal 60s-style scarves

Fred_tootal1

Two vintage labels have got together to rework a vintage classic – Fred Perry x Tootal scarves.

On the face of it, these are nothing more than another reissue of the classic Tootal scarf, double-sided with typical retro designs including a polka dot and paisley, with the usual tassled finish. Except these also feature the Fred Perry detailing (notably the laurel) on that silk and wool mix and if you're a collector of such stuff, are only avaialble in very limited numbers.

The price? £40 each. See over the page for another of the designs.

Unisex Hartwick Skimmer Shoe from American Apparel

Amaphartwick
American Apparel's aesthetic is deeply entrenched in the more eye-popping end of seventies and eighties fashions, but if you dig deeper there's some gems for the more conservatively dressed among us. These Hartwick Skimmer Shoes have the same retro credentials, but take cues from an earlier era.

Available in unisex sizes, these dress shoes are a great version of an early sixties formal pair. Available in a patent black or a rich vintage cream, they're a classic pair whose styling will last.

Get yours from American Apparel UK now for £65.

Bernhard Willhelm x Mykita 70s-style Franz and Luke sunglasses

Bernard2

If you want some retro-style sunglasses that are guaranteed to make an impact in the sun, you should check out the Bernhard Willhelm x Mykita Franz and Luke sunglasses, which are now available from Oki-Ni.

Both of these stylish designs are limited editions and both are inspired by skiing, in particular, the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics – we're guessing Franz is dedicated to downhill ski legend Franz Klammer, but we're not sure about Luke. Any ideas?

For your money, you get aviator-style glasses in mirrored gold, matching gold-coloured frames and a rather hip case to store them away. See over the page for a picture of the other pair, with both available now for £249.

Dr Martens Manton desert boots

Doc_desert

What do you get if you cross a Dr Martens boot with a classic desert boot? You get the Dr Martens Manton desert boots.

Whether phasing two classic styles is a good idea is something that's open to debate (I'm sure you'll already have decided if you love or hate these), but for the record, the boots are available in three colours, with two eyelets, contrast stitching and midsole plus the trademark air cushioned sole.

Hip in Leeds are doing pre-orders (for August delivery), prices around the £75 mark.
