eBay watch: 1960s Patrice Dupont-designed Philips UFO portable record player

Ufo

A stunning design that rarely comes up on eBay – so make sure you get a bid in for this Patrice Dupont-designed Philips UFO portable record player if you want one.

One of the space age classics to have appeared in the equally sought-after  L'utopie Du Tout Plastique book/catalogue, it's a battery-operated record player with built-in speaker, taking the shape of a flying saucer.

Described as in 'used but good condition', it's currently at £78. I suspect it might go for a little more in the end.

Study Buddy Cardigan by Kensie Girl

Study buddy

Cardigans of all shapes and sizes are an ideal choice of retro outerwear, whatever the 20th century era you're emulating. This Study Buddy Cardigan by Kensie Girl combines shape and colour to make a perfectly sixties piece of knitwear.

Taking the edge of menswear that was so in vogue in the decade, this longline cardigan is given some edge thanks to its design as a mini dress. A low V-neck feminises the look, while a great shade of golden rod yellow is instantly mid-sixties.

It's available online from ModCloth for $77.99.

Stripe Polo Neck Dress from Warehouse

Stripe polo

Most sixties dresses eschew a figure-hugging cut in favour of daring hemlines, but this Stripe Polo Neck Dress combines all the sass of the fifties with a definite sixties look.

The monochrome stripes give a mod style edge with an air of french sophistication, perfectly complimented by the polo neck. With just the right amount of figure hugging, the slightly longer hemline offsets it to keep things sleek.

Get it now from Warehouse for £25.

Robin Day Polo barstools

Day_stool

If someone asked us to name an affordable design classic, the first thing we would say is likely to be the Robin Day Polo Chair. Designed back in 1973, it was the world's first indoor/outdoor polpropylene chair, complete with an eye-catching and timeless appeal, not to mention being very useful. So it's no surprise to hear that we also like the Robin Day Polo barstools.

Based on the original 1973 design, this variation isn't a million miles away from the standard chair, only this time there's the added height of the chrome frame – the seat part is identical. And like the standard Polo, it's available in a seemingly endless range of colours (not just the pink above).

More expensive than the £49 chair, the barstool will set you back £89, which still keeps it in that 'affordable' bracket.

Five of the best: 60s-style cameras

60s_camera

As part of an ongoing series of buyer's guides at our Modculture site, we thought it might be a good idea to pull together a selection of stylish 60s-style cameras. So that's exactly what we have done.

Based on looks, functionality and price, we've tried to cover all bases, all price points and a mix of digital and film cameras. We could have stretched to 10 in truth – although I'm not sure how long the page would be!

Check it out via the link. We are thinking of doing a series of buyer's guides on Retro To Go, so if you've any suggestions of what you would like to see in them, do let us know.
