Arne Jacobsen AJ Royal 1950s pendant light

Aj_royal

Another mid-century design classic that’s still on the market today – the Arne Jacobsen AJ Royal pendant light.

It was designed by Jacobsen back in 1957 as a fitting for the AS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. And it still looks ever bit as stylish 50 years on, especially when you flick the switch, with light from the bottom as well as through the stepped rings on the top to create an eye-catching ceiling effect.

Two sizes of the aluminium light fitting available, with prices starting around the £400 mark.

Lomo Lubitel 166B top-down camera

Lubitel

Some time ago, we featured the Rolleiflex MiniDigi AF 5.0, a camera that mixed vintage-style top-down snapping with digital technology. If that wasn’t authentic enough, the Lomo Lubitel 166B could be for you.

This authentic vintage deadstock item (originally sold in Russia) packs that same style of top viewer, as well as a Triplet lens (for ‘distinctive’ colourful images), manual shutter and aperture controls and some nice vintage-style accessories, including a case and carry strap. You can also upgrade to a flash, authentic vintage film and a leather bag.

Limited numbers available (around 25), selling from just over £150.

Jean Prouvé Rayonnage Mural shelving

Prouve_shelving

Wall-mounted shelving units aren’t as common as they once were, but they could make a comeback if they all looked as good as the Jean Prouvé Rayonnage Mural range for Vitra.

This particular shelving range was created by Prouvé back in 1936, offering functional book shelving or general storage from bent sheet metal and solid oak (stained or natural). All of which evokes an era, but at the same time, looks timelessly stylish.

Choose from small or large units, with prices starting at £699.

Wiggle style dress from Wallis

Wallis_dress

There’s been a growing trend for the ‘2 in 1’ dress on the high street recently, with everyone wanting to grab a slice of the figure flattering action. Of course, this shape comes straight from the pinup and rockabilly style, with curve hugging fabrics and high waisted cuts.

This wiggle style 2 in 1 dress from Wallis is a great choice as it combines a classic plaid check with a pussybow shirt design. Finding itself left somewhere between preppy and all out minx, this is a great 50s inspired look for day or night that won’t break the bank.

It’s available new in stores at Wallis for £40.
