Roobarb and Custard greetings cards

Roobarb

Browsing through a gift shop last week, I noticed these really striking Roobarb and Custard greetings cards – which I’ve just discovered are also available to buy online.

To the uninitiated, Roobarb was a short animated cartoon series from the 1970s, first shown in 1974 in fact, with all the distinctive animations drawn by Bob Godfrey. Indeed, all the drawings on the cards are officially licensed Godfrey images, with everything from birthdays to get well soon and retirement covered.

Check out the full range via the link below, with cards priced around £1.99 each.

1930s Paimio Chair by Alvar Aalto

Paimio

It might not be the most comfortable chair you’ll ever sit in, but the Paimio Chair by Alvar Aalto is one of the more stylish pieces of seating you’ll encounter.

Amazingly, the Paimio Chair (also known as Chair 41) dates from 1931 and equally amazingly, it’s made of all wood – a natural lacquered birch frame and a seat made of bent birch plywood in black or white.

If looks mean more than comfort, this can be yours via Artek for £1,848.

Pick up a 1980s Flipper II microcar at this month’s Classics from BCA car auctions

Flipper

If you are on the look out for a vintage car for not a lot of cash, make a note of Tuesday 22nd July, which is when the Classics from BCA car auctions take place at Blackbushe in Surrey.

There’s just about everything on sale, from vintage vehicles of the 20s and 30s through to more practical classic from the 50s to the 90s, including MGs, Triumph Stags, Jaguars, a Lotus, an original Mini and just about anything else you can think of.

But we love the quirky – like this 1982 SEAB Flipper II microcar. Out of France, the car has barely been driven, but offers economy on the open road from its 49cc two-stroke engine and practicality too with two doors, opening rear window and a luggage compartment. If you want it, it’s expected to go for between £1,250 and £1,750.

Recycled Tyre Seat – made from old scooter tyres

Tyre_seat

Old scooters never die – they just get made into stylish seating for the home, as is the case with the Recycled Tyre Seat.

The seats are made from old scooter tyres recycled from East London mechanics’ yards, then filled with a foam cushion in a colour of your choice, creating a 600mm seat that’s both comfy and convenient – when you don’t need it, just store it away.

Take your pick from a pink, blue or yellow finish, all selling for £50.

LogoBag Tipp-Kick retro holdall

Tippkick_2

Never heard of Tipp-Kick? Well, think of it as  an alternative to Subbuteo, but with kicking players and a two tone ball. It’s been around in Europe since the early 20s and indeed is still going strong – although this Tipp-Kick holdall from LogoBag owes more to its past that its present.

This canvas bag is in a bold green with contrast trim and a vintage-style Tipp-Kick logo on the front. There’s also an adjustable strap, a large storage area and smaller pocket on the side.

You can pick it up online, priced at £25.
