Kay & Stemmer’s Edith and Agnes mid-century-inspired shelving units

Kay_shelving

You might recall Kay & Stemmer from the very stylish Flow sideboard, which was launched back in 2006. Well, now the company is back – with these mid-century-inspired Edith and Agnes shelving units.

Take your pick from the Edith with three shelves or the Agnes, slightly taller with five shelves. Aside from the height, both are similar – made from solid oak with walnut veneered shelves and curved edges that give the units a distinctive look.

Made in the UK and available from Heals, prices start at £395.

Lomo retro Slingshot bags

Lomobag

We have featured several Lomo cameras in the past, but now there’s also a range of accessories on the market – including these Lomo Slingshot bags.

Effectively, they are upmarket tote bags, complete with retro video game font and a choice of colour and design. Made for both men and women, the bags are constructed from a soft synthetic leather that’s water resistant, with top access and a hanging interior pocket for – you guessed it – your Lomo camera.

Available online, they sell for $25, which is around £13.

Linn 1970s-designed Sondek turntable

Linn_sondek

Designed in 1972, the stylish Linn Sondek turntable sadly isn’t available for a 1970s price.

Over the 30+ years since it launch, the Sondek has been steadily updated technically, but still keeps those vintage looks. The current model has a patented, low-noise, single-point bearing (which eliminates unnecessary noise), a perfectly balanced belt-driven platter and solid wood plinth – which it’s claimed provides the most faithful reproduction of your vinyl on the market.

Take your pick from various finishes, with a price around the £1,500 mark.

1970s Superstudio Quaderna Table reissued by Zanotta

Quaderna

Not the cheapest coffee table you’ll see on the market, but the  Superstudio Quaderna Table is certainly a table with impact.

Designed by Superstudio in 1970 and reissued by Zanotta, it has a honeycomb core structure with white plastic laminate, which is silkscreen printed with black squares spaced at 3cm apart.

The table itself is 126 x 126 x 72 cm, so quite big – but not as big as the price. That’s a whopping £2,811.

Kubrick Coffee Table

Kubricktable

The Kubrick Coffee Table is obviously named after the director, presumably with his classic film 2001: A Space Odyssey in mind.

It is totally white, made entirely from acrylic capped ABS, which gives it that simplistic, but space-age look. However, beyond this simplicity it does have a dual purpose as it can be used as a magazine rack too, due to the deep grooves in the table top.

It costs £279 from Home Temptations.

Walmart Stockholm Desk

Walmartdesk

Something here for our American readers and from a surprising source. The Stockholm Desk is from Walmart, certainly not somewhere I’d normally associate with retro design.

It is said to be inspired by Swedish design, but it also has a definite mid-century look to it. It is made from light coloured veneer (sadly not from real wood) with white and orange accents.

It has now been reduced from $186 to $149.97 (approximately £76). Matching storage trolley and cabinet are available to complete the look. Visit the Walmart website for further details.
