Old school iPod boom box – made of cardboard

Ipod_boombox
Back in the day, miniature music players would have been laughed out of town – the size of your boom box was all that mattered. And now you can relive that era with this suitably old school iPod boom box.

But this 80s-style stereo isn’t all that it seems – it’s actually a DIY sound system, made of flat-packed cardboard, but with fully working speakers, a dock for your iPod and power from the included batteries.

Just like the real thing – only lighter and with more tunes. It retails for $45 (around £23).

Hamleys mod and punk-themed skateboards

Hamleys_skate
I’d be very surprised if a child of ‘five years plus’ will be bending their parents’ ears for mod and punk-themed skateboards this Christmas, but Hamleys might make a few quid out of bigger kids with them.

The designs are pretty obvious – a target on the mod board, as well as union jack and a flyer, with the punk one featuring…well…something similar, but in pink and without the target. And the words ‘British punk rock’ in case it isn’t clear.

Each skateboard is a 100 per cent Canadian maple deck, pressed with American stuff glue and with 53mm super-high rebound wheels. They retail for £44.99 each.

Swing Chair – 60s-style cool

Swingchair

A modern piece of design with a distinctly 60s feel – the Swing Chair.

It’s available from Onedeko with a variety of fabric options, but we like this Panton-esque covering the most. The chair itself has a chrome base and a curved shape for comfort, with a couple of arm rests thrown in for good measure.

You can order one online, priced at £539.

Tala Retro Food Kits

322898_2The rise of posh delis, patisseries and supermarket premium brands means that luxury food stuff is easy enough to get hold of these days, but as delicious as it may be, it doesn’t quite match the satisfaction of making things yourself.

If you want to unleash your inner fifties housewife (or househusband!), Tala has a range of Retro Food Sets that will help you do just that.

The range includes a Retro Ginger Bread Cutter Set, a Retro Icing Syringe Set and a Retro Jam Making Set. Each one provides the equipment you’ll need for the task.  They are packaged in boxes based on original 1950s designs which makes them suitable for giving as gifts too.

The sets are available to buy from The Conran Shop.

Ikea Syntes Skiss Plates

72586_pe188498_s4If the high end prices of the Missoni Margherita Tableware featured earlier this week are well outside of your budget but you liked the flamboyant flower patterns, then Ikea’s Syntes Skiss Plates may be the answer.

Decorated with a similar bold pink flower design to the Missoni crockery, the Ikea version comes with a much friendly price tag, starting at £1.49 for a side plate up to £5.99 for a large plate.

Further details can be found on the Ikea website.
