Retro Cassette tote bag

Cassette_bag
Continuing with our fascination with all tape-based items, we now present this rather impressive Retro Cassette tote bag.

It’s made of plastic, with a full-colour design that’s every bit the vintage cassette – only much bigger. And just to add to the detail, the handle even looks like unraveling tape. And it’s big enough to carry just about everything you’ll need when you’re out and about.

Details of the bag are available at the Fred & Friends website – with the exception of the price. You’ll have to check with your local supplier of their products (available on the site) for that.

Bill Wyman Signature metal detector

Wyman
Is there a more 70s pastime than metal detecting? Memories of kids in fields and on beaches in green snorkel parkas trying to find hidden treasure – but going home with four bottle tops and an empty Coke can.

It’s now long gone and confined to the nerdy few. Or is it? Well, according to an ex-Rolling Stone, it’s very much a happening hobby again – and he’s just released the Bill Wyman Signature metal detector to get us out and about treasure hunting.

“Metal-detecting is not just for anoraks or eccentrics; it’s probably
the best and the most enjoyable way of learning about our history,”
says Wyman. “On any garden, country field, footpath, woodlands, beach
or moor land you can find a huge variety of historical objects, all
easily located with this high quality metal detector.”

Keep Calm And Carry On tea towel

Calm_teatowel
Well, we’ve featured the poster, then the screenprint, so it would be rude not to mention the Keep Calm And Carry On tea towel.

As we have mentioned before, the design is from an old World War II poster (advising people what to do in case of invasion), re-discovered by a small bookshop in an old box of books. And since then, it’s seen its popularity go from strength to strength. This incarnation is a tea towel, with the design housed on a fine quality linen cloth.

You can pick one up online for £8.50.

Life’s a Picnic vintage hampers

Lifesapicnic
The sun is out, the sky is blue and it’s time for a picnic! And if you want to do it in some style, you need one of the Life’s a Picnic hampers.

They’re vintage hampers created by Elly and Evie Pace – or rather, hampers using classic and vintage materials. Each hamper is a one-off, featuring vintage tableware, linens, cutlery and lining fabrics – never in the same combination and all housed in a willow hamper with naturally tanned West Country leather straps.

And if you fancy a basket rather than a hamper, they do those too –  using vintage melamine tableware for your outdoor feast. Obviously you’ll have to pay for this level of detail, with a two-person hamper available from £180 and a four-person baskets starting at £160. But it’s going to beat anything you’ll find on the high street.

Rare’s 60s Monochrome dress

60s_monochrome
Unless you read trashy lifestyle magazines, chances are you’ll not want to copy the look of celebrity clothes horse and all-round waste of space Victoria Beckham. But that’s what you could be doing just that if you buy this 60s Monochrome dress from Rare.

Yes, it’s actually loosely based on something the ex-Spice Girl was seen wearing recently – but don’t let that put you off, it’s still quite a cool frock – and very affordable. The dress is just above the knee in length and made of a kind of jersey fabric in black with white detailing and a black top button.

And best of all is the price – a very pocket-friendly £22. You can buy it online or you might be able to find one in Topshop.
