Ruby Cube – Rubik’s Cube table

Ruby_cube

Yes, more Rubik’s-related design, this time the Ruby Cube, designed by J.P. Meulendijks.

It’s a side table, made of MDF and special acrylic plates – all the same colour, but rather cleverly changing colour depending on the angle it’s viewed from. So you always get the chequered effect wherever you are in the room.

It retails for $399 (around £200). Delivery is included for US and Canada, rest of world delivery is available, email them for price.

Paul Smith Bunny trainers

Ps_bunny
Paul Smith isn’t really known for footwear – and certainly not trainers – but these Paul Smith Bunny trainers are worth a look.

A very traditional shape, in white with red detailing and multicoloured side stripe. But the one stand out feature here in the toe – which features an unusual brogue-style detailing. The upper and lining is leather, sole is rubber.

Priced at £75, if they’ve got your size, you can pick them up in the sale at Kurt Geiger right now for £59.

Mskyo granny-style trolley speakers

Granny_speaker
I love unusual design, but Mskyo is the oddest thing I’ve encountered in ages.

Essentially it’s one of those trolleys that older women drag around the shops, complete with wheels, handle and tartan cloth finish. Except this one is a little different – it’s a powerful sound system, not unlike the good old ghetto blaster.

Made by German design company Classen and Partner, there’s no details of price as yet, just a cryptic "get in touch" message if you’re interested. Or indeed, if your granny is interested in livening up her trip to the shops.

Scandinavian Design by Charlotte & Peter Fiell

Scandinaviandesign
If you like Scandinavian design, and you want something to keep you amused over Christmas, why not treat yourself to a copy of Scandinavian Design by Charlotte & Peter Fiell.

This book covers Scandinavian design from 1900 to the present day, illustrating all areas of design, including furniture, glass, ceramics, textiles, jewellery, lighting, industrial and product design.

It has lots of great pictures, which makes it a good coffee table book to browse in and out of. It features the designers in alphabetical order, so is also great for reference, as it has brief biography of each designer, along with brief history of Scandinavian design in each country.
