Hanon gets exclusive reissue of Le Coq Sportif Arthur Ashe trainers

Ashe1

An interesting collaboration using a minor classic of days gone by – the Le Coq Sportif x Hanon Arthur Ashe trainers.

As you might have guessed, this is a Hanon retail exclusive, with the shoe a remake of the original tennis shoe of the 1970s and 80s, designed (as you might also have guessed) for the US tennis icon Arthur Ashe. It's a no-nonsense trainer with perforated detail for breathing, a soft lining for comfort and premium upper for 'extra resistance'. It also features the original Le Coq Sportif 'practice' logo on the heel and the Arthur Ashe signature on the side.

These should be available this month on the Hanon site, as yet no price details have been announced. Another shot of the shoes from a different angle over the page.

Sanna Annukka Aurinko tea light holders

Aurinko_tealight
Regular readers will know that we're big fans of the work of Sanna Annukka and her take on traditional Scandinavian art done with more than a hint of the 1970s. In the style of her soul birds that we showed you a little while back, she's now applied her trademark type of pattern to these Aurinko tea light holders

Made from solid oak, the tea-light holders measure around 20cm high. Each has been screen-printed with a different folk art style pattern meaning no two designs are the same. The use of the black pattern against the oak gives a contemporary feel to the objects and they are interesting pieces in their own right, whether or not you choose to add the tea lights.

These holders have been made in an edition of only 100 pairs so, if you like them, you should probably invest now.

They cost £89 for a pair.

For sale: Peter Moiret-designed terrace house in The Hamlet, Champion Hill, London SE5

Ham1

Not the most instantly eye-catching house we've ever featured, but this Peter Moiret-designed terrace house in The Hamlet, Champion Hill, London SE5 is certainly architecturally significant and ripe for a renovation.

A mid-terrace house, it's located on what is described as 'one of London's most desirable modernist developments' – a collection of 32 dwellings designed by Peter Moiret that all overlook a communal green, as well as being located on a peaceful hilltop site surrounded by trees, but still within easy reach of central London.

eBay watch: 1970s Howard Miller for MDA coffee table

Howard

In terms of classic British design, Merrow Associates is the most overpriced brand you'll find on eBay. Not that long ago, you would be able to pick up the main pieces in charity shops for modest prices. These days, even the most common design is pushing £1,000. Someone even has the cheek to be asking over £20 for a photocopied old catalogue. Yet similar labels are still much cheaper and of similar quality, as this Howard Miller for MDA coffee table shows.

At first glance, this is a Merrow Associates design, sharing the same industrial-style detailing as well as the chrome, rosewood and glass construction. Except this is actually the work of another British company operating at the same time and servicing the same market – Howard Miller of Miller Design Associates.

In 'excellent clean condition', it's on a buy it now of £295 or you can make an offer. There's also a trolley on eBay by the same maker for £175. If you like the look, but don't like the Merrow prices, it's a label worth seeking out…until everyone cottons on and the prices fly up.

eBay watch: Low mileage 1970s Rover 2000TC

Rover

A really distinctive car – and this Rover 2000TC has done little over 10,000 miles since it was produced back in 1973.

Indeed, it has had just one owner for the last 33 years, that owner doing just 440 miles since 1994. You can safely say it's in great condition. It's also got some added authenticity, sold with the maker's literature pack, two sets of keys and sales brochure. There's even an 'as new' original spare wheel and tyre.

It's the classic car that needs no work at all to get on the road – and it can be yours for £4,995. Lots more photos on the listing page.

eBay watch: A Pair of 1970s Artifort Groovy Chairs by Pierre Paulin

Paulin

No, 'groovy' isn't our description, these actually go by the name of Artifort Groovy Chairs, a 1973 design by Pierre Paulin.

The chairs are still being made, priced at £1,309 each online (we've just checked – and that's in the sale), although that's obviously for brand new versions. These aren't that. According to the seller, the pair on offer here are in 'good condition' but suffer from 'some discolouring/fading to the fabric'.

So not perfect, but structurally sound and design classics. The pair is available online for a 'buy it now' of £575 or you can make an offer.
