eBay watch: 1966 Triumph Herald 1200 Convertible

Herald

It's always a risk buying a classic car, especially if you're not too great under the bonnet. But this Triumph Herald 1200 Convertible looks a cool and practical buy if you are a novice.

Dating back to 1966 and still cutting a hip profile, this Herald has just over 80,000 on the clock of that 1,147c engine. It's also described as being in 'excellent condition', as well as 'trouble free' and in 'great working order'. That's perhaps down to the amount of money spent on it – overt £2,000 in the last year alone. See the website for a breakdown of just what has been replaced and upgraded.

Another shot over the page, with many more on the listing. The price right now is £2,200 with no reserve.

eBay watch: Nissan Figaro retro-styled car

Figaro

Ok, this has come about because of a train of thought. Back in 2006, we did a piece on Nissan's retro car range, something I was reminded of when I spotted the bizarre Nissan S-Cargo on eBay. But this isn't flagging that vehicle up, it's flagging up the altogether more common, but equally eye-catching Nissan Figaro.

We're flagging up one example on eBay, but right now there are between 70 and 80 examples of the limited edition retro-styled sports car on eBay – so if you're reading this post a bit late, keep checking as they are always plentiful and in all the colours. Something to suit all budgets if you like.

eBay watch: Mini Shorty convertible car

Mini_shorty

I'll be honest, I've never seen anything like this before, but the Mini Shorty convertible seems to be a mini-version of a Mini – if that's possible.

Built in the 80s and packing a 998cc engine and a more recently-added soft top, the Mini Shorty was built by a professional company making these down in Cornwall and used originally as a demo car, but latterly as the current owner's 'personal fun car'. How small? I can't say exactly, but the images on the site might give an idea of size compared to other vehicles.

Guaranteed to turn heads, it's good to go with a hefty MOT, new tyres, a new 'reconditioned' engine less than 10,000 miles ago and offered in 'fabulous condition' overall. If you want it, the bids are currently at £1,500.

eBay watch: 1976 Volkswagen Karmann Beetle convertible

Bug

Looking for a cool car for or the summer that isn't going to cost much? Check out this 1976 Volkswagen Karmann Beetle convertible, which is currently criminally cheap.

Not exactly the lowest mileage at just over 113,000 miles, but let's be honest, this is a classic car that's 34 years old, so not that bad really. According to the seller, this left-hand drive model is 'in good running order' and in 'regular use throughout the year', with regular serving at a VW specialist.

Body is described as 'sound' and the MOT takes you to June 2011, so all in all, sounds like a winner if you want to own a big. Especially at the current price – just £10.50 would you believe.

eBay watch: 1960s Austin Mini Moke convertible

Moke

If you want to make driving fun again, you might want to invest some of your savings in this 1960s Austin Mini Moke convertible.

It's actually dated to 1966 – and you could probably imagine it taking someone for a whirl round Carnaby Street in its heyday. According to the seller, the Moke has been in 'many film shoots' and 'some James Bond films' and is sold in 'original' condition – although I'm not sure the paint job is original.

The 848cc engine apparently 'starts and runs fine' and there's 11 months of MOT left on it. Of course, it's tax free. Check out lots more snaps of it online, with the price on a 'Buy It Now' for £6,995.

Fiat 500C by Diesel unveiled

Fiat1

The original Fiat 500 by Diesel went on sale around 18 months back, but priced well up on the basic model. So we expect much the same of the forthcoming Fiat 500C by Diesel.

As you've probably guessed, this is another remake of everyone's favourite modern-day retro car, but with Diesel giving treatment to the convertible 500. So the same Diesel detailing on the wheels, side-panels and interior, the same anthracite colourway (pictured over the page) and new blue (above) and beige versions.

No news on price, but it would be wise to budget up on a standard convertible.
