Next have undergone a push lately in order to shed the image that they're only good for workwear and undies, and it seems to be working well for their womenswear section. For retro lovers, each new season has proved quite lucrative, and this Spring/Summer is no different.

The new Miami Retro collection is something of a mishmash of influences, but there are some pieces worth seeking out. The Bardot top (right) is a great, basic homage to Brigitte that's instantly recognisable. Elsewhere there is a variety of 1950s and 60s influenced pieces that are perfect everyday wardrobe fillers and very reasonable prices. It might not all be on the money, but it's certainly worth a look.

Back in the sixties, Ossie Clark and his label were known for their ethereal style cut and fantastic fabrics. The brand carries on a definite retro aesthetic to this day, expanding tastefully on Clark's vision. The signature prints have been reinvented in the new collections, with classic dress patterns that will become wardrobe treasures.

Skirts and dresses in a retro theme are everywhere, but finding trousers can be a challenge for many eras. It's no surprise, given how new women's pants were in the 1950s, but some of the design from the decade provides fantastic inspiration.

These Miss Real nautical trousers are a great homage to the pinup girl nautical obsession of the 1950s. Taking the matelot buttons and colour scheme that featured on shorts and skirts, these trousers provide a more practical, wearable item for every day.

Shirt style dresses might seem a relatively modern invention, since they're constantly revamped by design houses and high street alike. The truth is, they've been around for longer than most of us, and are a great way to get some 1930s style, when they're done just right.

This French Connection Deco dress is a great example of how to get the pre-war version just right. Combining the masculine collar and sleeves with an ultra feminine skirt and print make this ideal.
