Schuh Beauty Rose Court shoes

Schuh_rose

The corsage has quietly been making its way back onto the UK high street, but no use is more effective than on evening shoes. These Schuh Beauty Rose courts might contain something of a mishmash of retro influences, but they make for a great result.

The mid heel, sloped and sculpted, combined with the overall rounded shape is a more modern touch. The rest of the shoe, however, is clearly heavily influenced by the 1940s and 50s. The cut outs make this pair for me, with a leftover 30s motif that was still popular in forties footwear. Topped by the rose detail, these are far from ordinary black high heels.

Get them online from Schuh, or in shops, for £49.99.

Forties inspired workwear from Dorothy Perkins

Dotty_ps

The 1940s/50s inspired tailored dress look seems to be ever growing in popularity among both designers and the high street at the moment. While the designer options are perfect for parties, these more demure styles from Dorothy Perkins might be more of an office ideal.

The pleating at the neckline of the tweed dress makes the heavy material much more feminine, while the notched hem and gathered neck of the black piece add a much needed retro interest to what could be a fairly dull item. Both require a good fit to work best, but if you’re lucky enough to get that, you’ll have Mad Men chic in spades.

Seventies style trench coat from La Redoute

La_redoute

Faux leather can often be tricky territory, but whether you’re vegan or just don’t have the bank balance for the real thing, a good fake is a great find. This La Redoute faux leather coat is a pretty good looking alternative, and it’s got seventies styling to boot.

Looking like something befitting of Cagney and Lacey, in a great way, this trench is simply styled and lets the chocolate brown speak for itself. An ideal coat for winter that will translate with formal or casual looks.

It’s available online from La Redoute for £55.

Nelda’s Vintage Clothing for Men and Women

Neldas

Vintage clothing shops, more than any retailers, live and die by their stock, so finding one that you can consider a safe bet is nigh on impossible. The best ones to bookmark, though, are those with ample stock that can ensure something for everyone almost all of the time.

Nelda’s Vintage Clothing is one such purveyor of vintage finds. The online shop has one of the most impressive volumes of vintage stock I’ve seen in a while, and there’s both menswear and ladieswear, as well as accessories. It might not all be your thing, but there’s little doubting there’s a good chance there’ll be something ideal.

Shown above is a 1950s dress and some 1970s Men’s boots.

T-Bags silk jersey mini dress

Tbags

Mini dresses and winter are hardly two things which seem to go hand in hand, but finding a year round 60s style is a great investment. This T-Bags silk jersey mini is a perfect candidate thanks to its longer sleeves and colour palette.

The geometric pattern is an effective ode to 1960s high fashion, and the muted colours give a sense of a late sixties/early seventies mood. This one will easily be pared with some tights to make it wearable right now, too.

It’s available online from Net-a-Porter for £165.
