Debenhams Minimalism Collection

Minimalism

With the exit of Summer comes time for the launch of the new Autumn/Winter ranges on our high street, and some seriously suave new looks for Debenhams. Among their previews comes the Minimalism range, based on timeless classics for modern girls.

Taking inspiration from fifties and sixties couture, Debenhams have created a line that’s simple, but steeped in retro looks. The shift dress (right) is well cut to provide perfect workwear with a hint of 60s chic, and their Chanel-inspired cardigan is a great recreation of the monochrome classic.

L.A.M.B. Checkerboard Dress

Lamb_dress

The checked stripe motif is a classic of British design, from scooter Mods to the 2Tone label. It still conjures up a great sense of retro design, made better by its inclusion on this minidress by L.A.M.B.

The three quarter length sleeve on this poloneck mini makes it every inch the sixties cut, but with some modern sass thanks to the figure hugging hem. In 100% black wool, the check motif stands out a charm.

It’s available now from Shopbop for $325.

V&A re-creates Pierre Cardin’s classic 60s Cosmos outfit – as a t-shirt

Cosmos

The image to the left is Pierre Cardin’s classic space age Cosmos tunic. And the one to the right is the V&A’s exclusive Cosmos t-shirt.

The Cosmos outfit is perhaps the most famous of Cardin’s space age designs, dating back to 1967 and designed to be worn with matching ‘helmet’ and tights. The t-shirt is a little more flexible, but still comes in red, with the famous circular logo.

Made from 100 per cent cotton and available in sizes S/M and M/L, you can pre-order now for £20.

Celia Birtwell Lingerie Sets

Birtwellpants

You’ve got the blouse and the dress, now get the underwear!

Topshop has added lingerie sets to the latest Celia Birtwell collection. There are three sets available to buy online, and they use the same prints as the current selection of clothing.  Pictured here is the Blue Moon print (which confusingly isn’t blue at all) with sets in Micklemas and Maison Marigold designs also available.

Comprising of a camisole and a pair of mini tie-sided knickers, the sets costs £28 each.  They certainly look very pretty and are a reasonable price, but unfortunately they are just made of viscose, which is a shame as a silk-mix fabric would have been preferable.

Visit the Topshop website to buy.

French Connection Ives Dress

Ives_dress

When people think of seventies fashion, they most often picture the student folk look that was so popular with young hippie types. That’s all well and good, but it does deprive lovers of retro looks of a myriad of options. This Ives Dress from French Connection is reminiscent of something quintessentially seventies – loungewear.

Somewhere between bourgeoisie and New York disco, this silk number is taken back a few decades by the flowing cut and draped bell sleeves. Teamed with a risqué hem fit for Studio 54, this is a great piece of retro fashion under the radar.

It’ll set you back £95 from French Connection.
