Pernod Suit by Jaeger

Jaeger_suit

The sixties and tailoring go hand in hand, but it’s not just for the boys. While formal menswear continues to take inspiration from the decade of the Mod, retro women’s suits are harder to come by. This Jaeger Pernod suit takes great inspiration from the decade to make sleek formalwear with lasting style.

The pernod suit combines a simple pencil skirt with a great signature jacket style. With bell sleeves, a single button on a high boat collar and an unstructured waist, the jacket makes this retro to a T. In an eye-catching shade of silk linen, this is quality and style to keep.

It’s available from Jaeger for £400, though each piece is sold separately.

Ted Baker Button Back Shift Dress

Image4xl

The shift dress continues to a popular retro shape for high street designs, but the Ted Baker Button Back Shift Dress has two things that set it apart from the usual choices.

The first is, as its name suggests, the buttons that run up the back of the dress, which add to its cute 1960s style. The second is the colour; a bright orange, which again has a strong association with decades past. As well as the bold colour, it has a pretty high hemlines, you need a bit of confidence (and a good pair of pins!) to wear this one.

It is made from a lightweight wool and costs £120 from As Seen on Screen.

New Hetty Rose vintage Kimono designs

Hetty_rose

Some of you may remember Hetty Rose, who we told you about last year. The company hand make shoes and accessories from fantastic vintage Kimono fabrics, making each pair entirely bespoke and extremely eyecatching.

Well, they’re back with part two of their Kimono collection, featuring many more shoe shapes and designs and a few bags thrown in for good measure. I particularly love these Hana Mary Jane shoes.

Shoe prices start from £300, though each item is made to measure.

The Spice Dress by Bettie Page Clothing

Spice_dress

Bettie Page Clothing, named for the biggest queen of the pin-up scene, keep coming up with the goods as far as vintage style is concerned. With dresses fit for Ms Page herself (she did sport fine threads when they were on, too), their attention to detail and geniune period styling speak for themselves.

This Spice Dress is new for Autumn and could become a firm favourite. Suitable for both day and eveningwear, the red accents and sharp tailoring provide a fairly racy contrast to the sweetheart gingham.

The dress is available from mid-September from Pin Up Parade, along with many other designs, for just £65.

This weekend sees the return of one of London’s biggest vintage fashion events as the Frock Me Vintage Fashion Fair takes place at Chelsea Town Hall on Sunday 7 September.

Frock Me have been hosting fashion fairs since 2004, and their events attract top vintage dealers from around the UK to sell their wares. The fair is also a great place to shop for vintage accessories and fans of burlesque styles will also find plenty of basques, fans and feather boas.

Besides the fabulous fashion, visitors can also experience the delights of a pre-war tearoom, where tea, cake and scones will served on vintage china by staff dressed in period clothing.

The fair is being held at Chelsea Town Hall, King’s Road, Chelsea, London SW3 5EZ, between 11am and 5.30pm. Admission costs £4 with a discount for students. For further information visit the Frock Me website.
