One of the truly classic dress shapes is the shift, from the late fifties throughout the sixties and onwards throughout fashion. The simple cut is still a hit with designers, with prints doing all the talking on this Ria Roberts piece.

With a subtle unicorn print, the dress is summery and fun, while still keeping the class and sophistication of a Mod inspired look.

Sw3

Many months ago, we featured the Frock Me! vintage fashion fair. And now, from the same people, comes Memory Lane SW3.

It promises both vintage fashion and vintage/classic home design and accessories from around 50 exhibitors, not to mention ‘vintage-inspired’ modern designs. Or in other words, everything that the retro enthusiast might want to throw their money at.

The next event is this weekend – Sunday 13th July – taking place at the Chelsea Town Hall, King’s Road, London, SW3 5EZ. If you can’t make that, check out the website for future dates.

Rockabilly accessories from Topshop

Rockabilly_topshop

For the most part, Topshop isn’t exactly the most rewarding of shops for anyone who isn’t a 20 year old indie kid, but hidden amongst the achingly hip are some quality finds for lovers of any given retro scene.

New in this month are some great rockabilly styled accessories, including these tattoo stud earrings and fantastic cats eye shades. The studs are available as a set to mix and match, with the cherry and horseshoe capturing that bubblegum-meets-sailor end of the rockabilly look.

The earrings cost £8 and the sunglasses are £15. Look out for some leopard print accessories too.

1920s look dress by DAY Birger et Mikkelson

20s_tunic

There seems to be something of an undercurrent of 1920s influence creeping up among the fashion crowd at the moment, which is no bad thing for retro lovers.

This tunic dress by DAY Birger et Mikkelson may require a little more bravery than many retro looks, but it captures the decade’s flapper style perfectly. Unfortunately, this one may be limited to ladies with a more waif-like figure, as popular at the time.

Made from silk blend velvet, this quality styling and fabric will set you back £230 from Net-a-Porter.
