1920s style lace shift dress at ASOS

Lace_shift_asos

Following on from the flapper style dress at French Connection of a few weeks ago is another fantastic ode to the decade from another fashion brand. This Vintage Lace Shift dress is from ASOS and looks every bit the original.

In the almost shapeless shift style it’s a perfect shape for 1920s fashion, which favoured rakish, boyish figures above all. The lace panelling on the shoulder and chest adds a little extra interest to make this dress both demure and rather daring.

It’s only available as a one off from the ASOS website, so be quick if you want to snap this one up in a size 6 for £40.

Retro one-piece swimwear from Popina

Halter_retro_swimsuits

One-piece swimsuits have been looking a little bit lacklustre since the onslaught of the bikini in recent decades, but thanks to the recent trend for fifties looks the bathing suit is very much back in our shops.

We mentioned Jasmine Guinness’ gorgeous versions on Retro To Go some time ago, but if you’re looking for something a little bit different then these designs from Popina are worth a look. The polka dot halter suit with boy shorts is a great choice and extremely easy to wear.

These two suits are available online and cost $72 each in a variety of colours and prints.

Affordable vintage styled sunglasses from Forever 21

Forever_21_sunglasses

Vintage sunglasses are an absolute treasure when they’re in good condition, but thanks to the surge in popularity of 50s and 60s style sunnies they can often cost more than an entire outfit on their own. If you’re looking for retro style shades on a tight budget then Forever 21 is for you.

The shop’s extensive ladies sunglasses range has a surprising number of pairs with genuinely impressive retro looks, taking inspiration from the 50s, 60s and 70s with classic cats eye, Jackie O, and oversized shapes.

Each pair costs less than $10, so you can afford to get one for each of your retro looks.

Retro-cut high waist shorts from Oli

Shorts

The backlash against the hipster cut is in full force in women’s fashion, which is lucky for us lovers of retro tailoring and silhouettes. The high waist has been brought back to revive the trouser cuts that were so very popular with the women who didn’t rely upon their frocks in the 50s and 60s.

The summer range at Oli has taken the high waist further with these tailored shorts, which remind me of classic Old Hollywood style. Great for summer, the French Matelot style fastening of the navy pair adds another classic element to the garment.

The shorts cost £35 and £30 each (left to right) from Oli online.
