Designed by Aalto around 1938-39 for Villa Mairea (the house he designed for friends Harry and Maire Gullichsen), it has the designer's distinctive modernist spin across the range. A range that includes a garden chair, a lounger and two types of table.

Alvar Aalto 1950s A110 ceiling lamp for Artek

Alamp

Often referred to as the Hand Grenade, the Alvar Aalto A110 ceiling lamp is back on the market, courtesy of Artek.

Designed back in 1952, it mixes midcentury with minimalism, two cylinders (one inside the other) leave a gap so the light is reflected upwards, while a perforated brass ring at the bottom diffuses the light downwards as an added bonus.

Made of lacquered aluminium, with that polished brass ring and able to be hung solely or in a group, the light sells for 275 Euros.
