Inspired by the pop art movement, the 1960s Melooni target design range returns via Marimekko.

The Melooni pattern was the work of the famous Finnish illustrator and graphic designer Maija Isola, who created this reworking of a classic back in 1963.

Is it a target? Well, actually, no, it isn’t. The image used for the Melooni design is actually described as a ‘deconstructed image of a melon’, which makes sense the more you look at it and if you consider the actual name. But it is essentially an abstract pattern consisting of three concentric ovals.

Marimekko has reissued the pattern periodically in various colour options, but it is back now in the original red, green, and white across just three design pieces (although more might yet be added—the main image shows a plate, for example).

The large cushion heads the range, which has a cotton cover (featuring the design) and is filled with recycled polyester padding. Alternatively, you can go smaller and pick up a bowl or a mug.

It isn’t a cheap option, whatever you go for. But it is something of a design classic for your home. The cushion sells for £119, with the mug at £23.88 and the bowl retailing for £29.08 online.
