Not to be confused with the 1967 jacket, the Levi’s Vintage Clothing 1961 Type III denim jacket is back on the shelves.
The 1967 incarnation of the iconic Levi’s jacket is the more commonly seen – although it hasn’t been seen as much of late in the Levi’s range. The 1961 version isn’t massively different in terms of overall design. But it differs with the finish. And if you are a bit of a denim collector, that’s likely to be a big thing.
As for the design, this is pretty much the classic look for a denim jacket. The early ones, even going back a touch earlier to the 1950s, differ in detail in shape. This is the jacket you most commonly associate with Levi’s.
Like the vast majority of Levi’s Vintage Clothing designs, this reissue is a true-to-the-original reproduction of the 1961 557 ‘trucker’. This means a pointed collar and waist adjusters, plus pre-shrunk organic denim that ‘fades beautifully over time’. There are also two chest pockets and the all-important woven Levi’s tab.
The only downside is the price, which has risen steadily over the years. All sizes are available, but you are looking at £399. Saying that, unless you lose it, this is a classic that will be with you for years.
