Richard

Richard Roberts
obviously has a love of vintage cinema, producing these classic film typography prints for the Keep Calm Gallery.

Two prints available – End II and Fin II, the first being a final screen for an unknown vintage film, the second a more generic end screen for just about any classic French movie. Both are hand-pulled screen prints, limited to 100 and signed and numbered by the artist.

They retail from £26.

Eight Days a Week: Inside The Beatles’ Final World Tour

Eightdaysaweek

If you do buy one of the coffee tables we’ve featured this week, then perhaps you’ll also want to treat yourself to a beautiful book to show off on it.

Just released is this lavish book of photographs of the Beatles. “Eight Days a Week: Inside The Beatles Final World Tour” comprises of photographs by esteemed photographer Robert Whitaker and text by Marcus Hearn. Whitaker was the photographer behind the most controversial Beatles artwork, the “Butcher Sleeve” used briefly on the US release of “Yesterday and Today” and he also accompanied the band on several tours, gaining unrestricted access to their lives on the road.

The book is available to buy online at Amazon for just £12.99.

David Wright Blue Lady cigarette case

David_wright

British illustrator David Wright found his relative fame in his drawings of "lovelies" during the Second World War. His pin-up designs not only titillated, but were considered morale boosting for troops at the time too.

Offering a glimpse into the happier spirit of war-time Britain, David Wright’s Blue Lady design has been resurrected for our design pleasure on this great metal cigarette tin. An apt accessory for the time too, this is a great looking trinket for smokers or non-smokers alike.

It’s available online from Love It Have It for just £10.

“Victory at the Bay of Pigs” poster

094987_pop

The V&A’s Cold War Modern exhibition doesn’t start for a while yet, but already we are excited by the accompanying merchandise. Available to pre-order is a small selection of posters, my favourite being this “Victory at the Bay of Pigs” poster.

Printed especially for this exhibition, the poster was originally commissioned in 1971 by Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industrias Cinematográfico to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the victory. It was designed by Cuban born Niko Antonio Pérez, who is famous for his political posters during the 60s and 70s.

The A2 sized poster costs £16 and will be delivered in September. Visit the V&A shop to order now.

Shinzi Katoh poster range

Shinzi_poster

We’ve covered bags and homeware from Shinzi Katoh previously, but for fans of the designs, the poster range is certainly worth a look.

Essentially, these are the same retro-styled (and indeed childlike) designs, but in a much larger format – the Deep Forest image above is sized at 61 x 86cm.

All are printed on very high quality Japanese paper (so nice and thick) and all are priced around the £32 mark.
