Night Time is the Right Time T-Shirt

7211
Not quite up there with Yesterday or Hey Joe in the number of covers, but “Night Time is the Right Time” has certainly been covered by plenty of people, including Ray Charles, The Sonics and The Animals.

Now those lyrics have found their way onto this t-shirt by Adam Hayes. Adam is a graduate of the Royal College of Art and is particularly interested in typography as this design shows. The t-shirt is navy and available in small, medium or large, priced £30.

Atomic Coat Stand

Zoom_75374a
The Atomic Coat Stand has clearly influenced by Eames 1950s Hang It All.

The stand has a molecular structure which gives plenty of room for storing coats. Rather than a variety of bright coloured balls, the arms in this design just have red and black balls on the end.The stand is white with a heavy marble base, so it won’t topple over.

It costs just under £130 from I Love Retro.

Automation Bed Linen

Automation
Like the Metro set featured last week, the Automation Bed Linen is a range of brightly coloured retro bedding from Heal’s.

This design is part of the Heal’s ReDiscovers series, being a reissue of Barbara Brown’s 1970s print. The design was inspired by machines and architecture, and Brown mathematical formulae to create the pattern – which is probably why the overall effect makes me think of Kraftwerk! Prices start at £30 for a pair of pillowcases with the duvet covers ranging from £70 for the single size up to £100 for the Superking size.

The Sixties Unplugged by Gerard DeGroot

417wA8OuQnL__SL500_AA300_
The Sixties Unplugged by Gerard DeGroot was published a couple of years back, but has only just made it to the top of my reading list.

DeGroot's central premise is that the 1960s weren't the idealistic revolutionary decade that is usually remembered with fondness and its legacy isn't necessary the things most people immediately think of. The book covers all the usual things you’d find in a book about the 1960s (The Beatles, Vietnam, JFK, mini-skirts and student riots), but DeGroot stresses that only a minority of people involved in radical movements. He further proposes that it is the conservative politics of the time that has had the greatest impact on our world – this was the decade that Reagan first went into politics. Whether or not you agree with his arguments, the book offers a different perspective on a well-worn path.

The book is available for £6.99 from Amazon or as cheap as £1.25 from other sellers.

Metro Bed Linen

Metro_m
Heal’s is currently selling various brightly coloured bed linen , with perhaps the most interesting being the Metro Bed Linen.

The pattern consists of a series of different coloured and sized columns, in a style that I would describe as modernist. The Metro Bedlinen is currently in the sale with prices starting at £48 for a single duvet (reduced from £96) up to £73 for a superking size (previously £146).

George Nelson-style Writing Table

1293456468-04249300
Nowhere nearly as gorgeous as the George Nelson Home Desk, but then this George Nelson-style Writing Table is a more realistic price for most of us.

It was inspired by another of his desk designs from the 1950s and is made from walnut veneer with a white base. Its vital statistics are 67cm high by 77cm wide and 36cm deep, and it costs a meagre £399.
