Flower Coasters

Michellemasoncoaster

These Flower Coasters look rather like the Mary Quant daisy logo, but were created by contemporary designer Michelle Mason, whose cushions, bags and lampshades we’ve featured in the past.

The coasters are a great way to add a flower power touch to your table without spending a fortune. They cost £14 for a set of four and are made of 100% wool. Like all of her products, they are made in the UK and from naturally sustainable materials so have all the right eco credentials as well as looking good.

The Flower Coasters can be bought online from Hidden Art Shop.

Joey & Dee Dee & Johnny & Tommy T-Shirt

4039

Ramones t-shirts have become so ubiquitous these days and I suspect half the people wearing them don’t know the band’s music. Experimental Jetset however have designed a Ramones t-shirt that I would happily wear.

The “Joey & Dee Dee & Johnny & Tommy” t-shirt is typical of Experimental Jetset’s designs which try to show the workings of design itself. The Ramones design is available as a black t-shirt with white print and is currently on offer at Magma for just £15.

Experimental Jetset have also produced similar designs for the Beatles (John & Paul& Ringo& George) which is available in black or yellow priced £30 and the Rolling Stones (Keith & Mick & Bill & Charlie & Brian), priced £15 for short-sleeved t-shirt or £37 for a long-sleeved top.

James Rosenquist for Illy Mugs

B-pop-up-illy-mug

Artist James Rosenquist has been a major player in the pop art scene since the 1950s. These mugs created for Illy are one of his most recent designs but still have a pop art sensibility. The design is called Coffee Flower Ideas and shows the journey of a coffee bean from plant to mug.

These are a first limited edition and are now out of production but can still be bought online from Panik Design. The price reflects the limited run, as they cost £100 for a pair.

Cobra TV Stand

Cobra-tv-big

As flat screen televisions are a relatively recent invention, the Cobra TV Stand obviously isn’t a classic design, but it nonetheless has elements of retro style in its design and is certainly a good deal more attractive than most modern stands.

It has been designed by Mario Bellini for Italian company Horm. It has a curved shaped and is made from multi-ply in a choice of finishes. It is available in whiten beech for that popular space-age look or for a warmer feel in beech with a mocha stain or walnut veneer.

The Cobra TV Stand costs £1480 from Panik Design.

There are four designs currently in stock, each one advertising a different old-fashioned coffee. Choose from white Park View Coffee, orange Daily Delight, yellow Always Good Private Blend or green Kaspers Monogram or buy a mixture.

The mugs cost just under £3.50 and can be bought online from Colloco.

Scream Rug

Screamrug

The Scream Rug has been designed by Calle Henzel for the Swedish company, a-carpet, who seem single-handedly intent on bring us more interesting floor coverings.

The Scream Rug features the black outline of a screaming woman, which looks to me to be based on the image of Janet Leigh in the infamous shower scene in Psycho. Although the image is potentially disturbing, like Hitchcock’s heroines, it still maintains a certain glamour.

The rug is made from 100% hand-tufted New Zealand wool and costs £2,428 from Funktion Alley.
