PaperPod Rocket

Rocketsmall

We love a retro rocket design and are always keen on environmentally-friendly design, so the PaperPod Rocket is surefire winner.

Made by PaperPod, it is constructed from recycled cardboard to form a rocket-shaped playhouse for children. The further beauty of cardboard is that it can be decorated too.

It costs just under £30 from Mimi Myne, although the handy amongst you may just take inspiration from it and make your own!

Ruby Photo Skirt Kit

Photoskirt

The Ruby Photo Skirt is a collaboration between two companies we’ve mentioned before. The print has been designed by Mini Moderns, featuring a collection of black and white and sepia tint photos from 1935, whilst the skirt kit has been put together by Cloth Kits.

The kit contains everything that you need to make the skirt, in sizes from 8 to 20. It costs £35 but if you have no inclination to sew, then you can buy a ready-made skirt for an extra £13.

Visit the Clothkit website for further details.

Original 1950s Scooter

1950scooter

Given the price and rarity, this is not probably not a scooter to give your kids to play with in the park nor to weave your way through city traffic on, but rather one for the collectors.

An original atomic vintage kick-a-long scooter, it dates back to 1950. It is a rare and collectible item and Elemental currently have one available to buy from their website, priced £450.

Visit the Elemental website for further details.

OTE Messageboard

Oteboard

The OTE is a messageboard that has been made from recycled plastic.

The messageboard consists of a magnetic area for posting notes, as well as four different shaped and sized compartments, which can be used items such as post and keys. There is also a photo frame section to add a picture to the board. The board itself and all of its components have rounded edges, giving it a retro look. It is available in pale green and blue, but looks best in the white pictured here.

It costs £42 from The Green Haus website.

MYTO Chair by Konstantin Grcic

Imgzoom-Myto-Plank-ref1207-20-aubergine

The MYTO Chair by Konstantin Grcic has recently been announced as the winner in the home furnishings of the Design Museum’s Brit Insurance Design Awards 2009. So it is obviously a new design, but it is not without its retro influences.

MYTO is a stackable chair, made from a single piece of plastic. It is a cantilever chair, which means it has no back legs to support its weight. Few designers have attempted to make these difficult chairs, but Grcic has now joined the ranks of Marcel Breuer and Verner Panton.

MYTO costs just over £185 in a huge array of colours including aubergine (pictured) which gives it a particularly Seventies look. Buy online from Made in Design.
