Film Posters of the 60s by Tony Nourmand

Filmposter60s

As owner of Reel Poster Gallery in London, Tony Nourmand certainly knows his stuff when it comes to movie posters. He has put that knowledge to good use in the book “Film Posters of the 60s: The Essential Movies of the Decade” .

The posters have been selected according to his principle that “a good poster not only portrays the film for which it was designed, but that ultimately its image perfectly represents the era in which it was born”. The films collected here do tend towards the well-known titles of the period, rather than more obscure fare, but there is still plenty of interest here.

This book is the first in a series by Nourmand, with further books now available covering every decade from the 40s to 90s. The 1960s book is available from Amazon priced £5.99 in paperback.

Classic Chairs Cushion

162

A few weeks back, we highlighted Mini Moderns’ “Sitting Comfortably” Wallpaper, which may be a bit too much for many homes. However, the same print is also now available in cushion form, which should have wider appeal.

The Sitting Comfortably Cushion features the same line drawings of iconic chairs, against a dark grey background (described as “chalkboard”). It measures 41cm squared and is available either as just a cover priced £26 or with a pad for £33.

Möve Pucci Beach Towel

Move_floralbt450

Sadly, I don’t have £70 to spend on a beach towel, but if I did the Möve Pucci Floral Beach Towel is the one I would buy.

As you would expect from a Pucci print, the design involves swirling shapes and flowers, creating a psychedelic pattern. Perfect for taking on a retro retreat to Palm Springs!

The towel measures 100cm by 180cm, is made from 100% cotton/velours and as already mentioned, costs £70. It is available to buy from Dot Maison.

Vintage Bus Signs

Xx_bus_460

There seems to be quite a market for old bus signs, but the prices are often rather on the high side. However Eden and Eden have a small selection of old British bus signs reasonable prices.

There is a choice of two numbers, 460 and 611 (I’ve no idea where these services ran) and a Private sign. They cost $38 for the number signs and $68 for the Private sign and are supplied framed. Eden and Eden is based in San Francisco, which is good if you in that area, but if you in UK, it may seem strange to be buying British signs in the USA.

Visit the Eden and Eden website for further details.

Icelandic Designed High Cups

Imgzoom-High-Cup-Details-refms0006-fleurs

Next a strange piece of Icelandic design by Birgisson Hrafnkell Hrafnkell in the shape of what are being called a High Cup.

The name is pretty accurate description of the product, which is a vintage china tea cup, elevated being being attached to a wine glass stem. The result is rather odd, but definitely a talking point. They are available in a choice of either patterned, floral or plain white, although the exact designs will vary as they are second-hand cups.

Not cheap by any means at over £42.50 per cup, but I suppose they are multi-purpose as you could drink your tea or wine from them. Visit Made in Design to buy.
