“Play A Song for Me” Bag

MixtapebagWe’ve bemoaned the demise of the Mix Tape here before so were pleased to see that we weren’t alone in missing it when we came across the “Play a Song for Me” Bag.

Designed by Hanna Melin, it is a white bag decorated with blue pencil drawings of a collection of old mix tapes of songs filled with memories of the past. It is made from 100% organic cotton and although produced in India, it hasn’t been flown here so it has sound environmental credentials.

It costs £9.95 and can be bought from the Hidden Art Shop.

Thomas Kent Milan Clock

MilanclockThe Milan Clock is a striking new design by Thomas Kent but it still has a retro edge thanks to its choice of font and shape.

The 12 inch square clock has rounded corners, which work well with the font style. The minimalist white clock face allows the simple black numbers to make quite an impact. It is also available as a black clock with white numbers.

It costs £68.50 from My Living Space.

Portmeirion Crazy Daisy Storage Jars

Crazydaisyjar Ceramics company Portmeirion was founded in 1960 and that decade’s styles continue to influence their designs today. Although just released in 2007, the Crazy Daisy range has a clear retro style with its flower power motif.

The range is vast, including every conceivable type of tableware and serving pieces as well as textiles, but my favourite part of the series are the Crazy Daisy Storage Jars. Available in three sizes (20cm, 18cm and 14cm) they all feature the same print and a retro wooden lid.

They are available to buy online from Bennetts, with prices from £18.50 to £24.75. They also stock most of the other Crazy Daisy range too.

Psychedelic Patterned Artala Waste Basket

ArtalaIts not difficult to pick up a retro style bins these days given the dominance of the chrome style by Brabantia, but the Artala Waste Baskets by Umbra are something a bit different.

Eschewing the current trend for sleek chrome minimalism, the exterior of these bins is heavily printed with a psychedelic graphic design. It is available in three options, red (pictured here), ocean blue (a more subtle colour scheme) or kiwi (a bright mix of greens with pink and black).

They are available to buy from Unicahome, priced just $18 (around £10).

Tatty Devine 3-D Glasses Accessories

83denamelclIn the 1950s 3-D was hailed as the future of cinema, but the initial enthusiasm for the medium was not sustained and these days it is very much seen as a gimmick or relic of the past.

Always one for bizarre designs, Tatty Devine currently have a whole range paying tribute to the 3-D Glasses required to view the 3-D films. The 3-D Glasses Range includes various styles of necklace, a badge, earrings and for men, these cufflinks, each featuring the famous one green and one red lenses.

Prices range from £17 for the brooch up to £35 for the large necklace. In most of the piece, the lenses are purely decorative, but in the large necklace it apparently does work if you hold it up to your eyes!

View the whole collection online at the Tatty Devine website.
