Twiggy Eco Shopper

Twiggybag2007 has definitely been the year of the shopping bag, started, of course, by the Anya Hindmarsh ‘I’m Not a Plastic Bag’ craze in the spring. Since then most supermarkets have introduced their own eco alternative to the plastic carrier. Marks and Spencer are currently selling several designs including the Twiggy Eco Shopper.

Made from organic cotton, the bag features a portrait of the iconic model (as she was back in the Sixties, not as recently seen in M&S adverts) by the fashion illustrator David Downton.

Priced £2.50, you can pick one up near the checkout of most Marks and Spencer stores or buy one online at their website.

Moose Firelighters

MooseLabour and Wait specialise in old fashioned, high quality practical products, the stuff that it is increasingly difficult to find on the high street. Amongst the brushes, twine and string that makes up much of their stock, we found these rather lovely Moose Firelighters.

Still very much a practical product, being from Sweden, this hasn’t meant a compromise on design. They apparently work effectively and smell good as well.

A book of twelve costs £15 and can be ordered online.

Ella Doran Vintage Plate Tray

VintagetrayThis isn’t a piece of chipped china picked up in a charity shop for a few pence, but another retro design from Ella Doran.

The Vintage Plate Tray is part of a kitsch range that features photographs of old patterned china plates, the kind favoured by aging relatives. The collection also includes coasters and tablemats, but this tray is the probably the best piece. The floral plate design is in the centre of the tray, where in fact you would put your actual plate, which is a rather nice touch.

It costs £15 and can be ordered directly from Ella Doran’s website.

Uten Silo Wall Tidy

UtensiloThe Uten Silo Wall Tidy was designed by Dorothee Becker and first released in 1969. One of the best known plastic designs of the 1960s, it has been now been re-released by Vitra.

The Uten Silo features a multitude of different shaped and sized pockets, hooks and clips, allowing you to store pretty much anything and everything in it.

It is available in two sizes in a choice of red, black or white plastic, priced from approximately £150 to £200. There is a deluxe version available in chrome that is much more expensive, but the plastic version is the original and in my opinion the best.

Utility Design are selling the full range online.

Children’s Car Lights

CarlightsPossibly VW Beetles, possibly Citroens, maybe even Skodas, the set of Children’s Car Lights is made up of colourful retro cars.

Designed for all year round use, probably in a boy’s bedroom, they could also be put to good use during this festive period as Christmas tree lights.

They cost just under £19 for a string of ten cars, from Vinegar Hill.

Vintage Bath Canvas

Vintagebath You may be stuck with an anonymous mass-produced modern bath because it just isn’t viable to have a stylish Victorian one, but perhaps you could hang a picture of one in your bathroom instead.

These Vintage Bath Canvases are available in two designs, the damask patterned bath pictured here or a floral patterned one. Both are 39cm x 50cm and cost around £42 each.

They can be ordered from The Lemon Tree Shop.
