Sunspel 1950s-style James Bond 007 polo shirt

Bondpolo

Sunspel has been making men’s clothing for almost 150 years – but has never had its own retail store. Until now that is. The high-end label has just opened a one-off Christmas store in Central Arcade, Covent Garden Market, London.

If you can’t browse that store, you can buy online – with items including the Sunspel 1950s-style James Bond 007 polo shirt. The short was worn by Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, but is actually based on a 1950s top designed for the Italian Riviera – made of a unique Sunspel cotton-based fabric, with a slim/vintage fit and single breast pocket.

It’s what the fashion magazines might describe as a ‘wardrobe essential’. And you can pick one up for £59.50. Actually, it sells for a bit less – quote ‘shop123’ at checkout and get another 10 per cent off.

Le Corbusier Casiers Standard Storage Unit

Casiers

If you’re looking for an example of why Le Corbusier’s designs are so timeless, look no further than the Le Corbusier Casiers Standard Storage Unit.

Designed way back in 1925 and able to fit into every decade since – still looking sharp in 2008. Designed as a functional piece for both home and office, the unit offers storage and plenty of it, both exposed and closed. And it’s a style statement too – with both wood and coloured finishes available, along with a choice of metal or pedestal legs.

Not exactly cheap at £6,000, but if you’re looking for something to be around as long as you (and to earn its keep), this is certainly worth a look.

Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition mobile phone

Nokia_brucelee_2

We don’t feature many mobiles phones on here – to be honest, not many have a retro angle. That’s not the case with the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition mobile phone.

Yes, this special edition is a tribute to everyone’s favourite martial arts movie star, packing that super-cool Bruce Lee doll (complete with Onitsuka Tiger trainers), a phone featuring Bruce’s face and signature on the case, a set of rare photos and accessories including a Bruce Lee strap and decorative nunchakus.

Ok, here’s the bad news. So far it’s only been released on Hong Kong, via the local Nokia website. If you don’t fancy risking that, I suspect eBay will be full of them in a matter of weeks. It’s priced at the equivalent of a whopping £871.

For sale: 1960s-designed house in Bois-le-Roy near Paris, France

Bois1

The pictures of this 1960s-designed house in Bois-le-Roy near Paris, France say it all really – my jaw dropped when I saw it.

The house was designed by French architect Claude Parent, winning awards aplenty, including being selected as a worldwide architectural masterpiece by the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Arts in 1983. We love that curved concrete roof, which is clad in copper, as well as that wood, glass and concrete finish for the house. Part space age, part mid-century, totally stunning.

Room At The Top Special Edition DVD

Room
After doing a superb job with its This Sporting Life restoration, Network is reissuing another kitchensink classic with the Room At The Top Special Edition.

Adapted from John Braine’s superb novel, the 1958 film version of Room At The Top chronicles the life of ambitious working class lad Joe Lampton (Laurence Harvey), pursuing the daughter of an influential local industrialist (Susan – Heather Sears) before falling for an older married woman (Alice – Simone Signoret). He’s forced to choose between the two – but his choice only leads to tragedy.

The new version is a brand new transfer from the original 35mm film, with extras including an audio commentary, image gallery and press cuttings. Look out for it on 26th January 2009 – if Network send us one in advance, we’ll have a review before the release date.

Network is also releasing the once banned 60s flick Who Killed Teddy Bear at the same time – find out about that over at Cinedelica.
