Industrial-style Clip Light

Cliplight

I know very little about the history of the Clip Light, aside from it being French, industrial-looking and very eye-catching.

The clip is for fixing to a desk (or any surface), with the large retro-style bulb also holding the sheet metal shade, the bulb also acting as a ball joint for the shade.

If you’re going for a 1930s or modernist look, it’s a cheap addition to the home, retailing for £26.95 in either black or white.

V&A offers reprints of classic Olympic posters

Olympics

The V&A is currently selling some reprints of official Olympic posters, from 1912 through to the 1990s.

Check out the site for your favourite – but the two above caught our eye. Firstly, the Tokyo 1964 Olympics, designed by Yusaku Kamekura and winner of the Milan Prize for poster graphics in its day. Also featured here is lesser-known Grenoble Winter Olympics poster from 1968, the work of Jean Brian.

All sell for £15 each.

Vitra’s George Nelson-designed Bench

Nelson_bench

Although the George Nelson Bench is just that, it’s also quite a versatile piece of furniture.

Nelson designed this in 1946, with the reissue over 60 years later by Vitra offering you some stylish seating for a garden (if you have a secure one) or conservatory, but also a cool mid-century coffee or occasional table should you need one.

It’s available in either natural or stained ash in two different sizes – and you can pick it up from £816.

London Underground Roundel cufflinks

Underground_cufflinks

The London Underground Roundel design dates back to 1912 – which surely makes it something of a design classic. And now you can wear it on your wrist, courtesy of these London Underground Roundel cufflinks.

What you see is effectively what you get, with the familiar design in red, white and blue fixed to a typical cufflink stem for your button-free shirt.

There’s no mention of the metal, so we can presume it isn’t precious – especially with a £9.99 price tag.

Vintage looks meet modern motoring with the Hindustan Ambassador and Oxford

Hind_ambassador

Looking for a vintage motor, but put off by the possible maintenance costs? The Hindustan Ambassador and Oxford could be for you.

It’s not exactly the new Fiat 500 – it’s actually a car range that has been in production in India (with slight changes) since the 1950s, based on the British Morris Oxford. In fact, it has been described as the ‘definitive’ Indian car.
