Heirloom’s mid-century Nora table for children

Nora

We featured Heirloom furniture some time back, but at the time it wasn’t available. It is now.

If you missed out original article, Heirloom is mid-century style furniture for children, built to last through generations of your family. We have highlighted the Ellinor rocking chair before, but also in the collection and available to order is this stylish Nora table.

Unmistakably Scandinavian and inspired by furniture from the 50s and 60s, it is handmade, at ‘child height’ and with a choice of walnut, oak or birch finishes – all with a large surface area and rack underneath. The table retails for £369.40, with the rocking chair now confirmed at £742.

Giuseppe Terragani Sant’Elia leather armchair – modernist cool

Terragani

Most modernist designs seem to sacrifice comfort for sleek lines – not the Sant’Elia leather armchair.

Designed by Giuseppe Terragani in 1936 and available again via Zanotta, this is a mix of stylish design and soft seating, with the stainless steel tubular frame providing the modernist lines, while a generously upholstered seat, back and arms (in leather) means this is a chair you’ll not want to leave.

Not cheap at £1,699 – but if you have the money, hard to beat for looks.

Metrokane 50s-style ice crusher

Metrokane

A stylish (and indeed useful) addition to any bar, the Metrokane 50s-style ice crusher actually dates back to the 1930s.

The design is based on an original art deco piece, put back in production by Metrokane in a mix of acrylic and chrome, with the handle and heavy duty blades meaning you don’t need batteries or mains power for crushing.

Shop around for a good price, with the crusher selling in the UK for around £34, cheaper in the US at around $45.

Eero Aarnio Pastilli chair – a 1960s classic

Pastilli

Just launched online is Design Eero Aarnio – an online shop devoted to the work and designs of legendary Finnish designer Eero Aarnio. Take your pick of everything from chairs, tables and lamps through to clothing, textiles and smaller items such as postcards, bookmarks and door handles. Essentially, if he’s made it and it is still in production somewhere, it’s here.

And that includes the classic Pastilli chair. Designed in 1967 and screaming the era, it was intended as a comfortable and space-saving piece of seating – or rather, a chair that would fit into that awkward space in a room.

Still made to order and in a number of colour choices (orange being the obvious choice for the period look), the fibreglass chair retails for 1,500 Euros, which is around £1,000.
