Coming in January: Royal Mail launches James Bond postage stamps

It takes a lot to get me excited about postage stamps, but the Royal Mail’s James Bond stamp collection just about does it.

Unveiled today and available to buy and use from January 8th 2008, the James Bond collection marks the centenary of the birth of Bond creator Ian Fleming and includes six ‘extra-long’ stamps, each featuring different covers of six of his most famous Bond novels.

The two 1st Class stamps feature Fleming’s first novel Casino Royale (1953) and Dr No (the first novel to be filmed). The 54p stamps shows the covers of Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever, while the final 78p pairing features For Your Eyes Only and From Russia with Love.

All can be ordered now as collector’s packs from the Royal Mail website.

Umbra Rolly mid-century side table

Mid-century doesn’t necessarily mean vintage – not when you can pick up stylish items like this Rolly table, designed by Matt Carr for Umbra.

It’s a side table made from solid walnut and with a distinct 1950s vibe, thanks to that curved wood shape and rounded legs, not to mention the sliding panel that gives access to a hidden storage compartment.

Available online, it retails for just over £300.

Peagreen retro art prints

Peagreen is a Winchester-based studio, producing a range of designs from fashion through to home interiors. And now the company has a range of limited edition art prints for sale online.

All the prints are limited to just 75, with each numbered and signed by the artist and printed on 271gm textured fine art silk paper. Check the site for the full range, with each varying in style depending on the artist (although all have a distinctly retro vibe).

Our favourite right now is I Love Trees by Dan Walters, featuring this rather cool (and rather startled) owl. It’s sized at 350 x 350mm and retails for £75.

Eames Dots business card holder and pen

Before anyone sees your business card, they see your business card holder. And if you want them to think ‘good taste’, you should have a look at this Eames Dots business card holder and pen.

Both the card case and the pen feature the classic Dots pattern by Charles and Ray Eames, which dates back to 1947 (when it won a MoMA textile competition). Today the design adds a good dose of style to two functional and usually forgettable items.

The card case retails for $34 (around £17), with the pen selling for $67.50, which is around £34.

Kartell 1960s space age Umbrella Stand by Gino Colombini

I'm not sure what it's like where you are, but today, it has rained pretty much all day here. Which means umbrellas and somewhere to store them – enter the Kartell space age Umbrella Stand.

Designed by Gino Colombini, it's a cylindrical, injection moulded container that's both eye-catching and indestructible. And as an added bonus, it has two lateral openings, offering you the option of using the lower section as a waste basket, as well as an optional upper tray to convert it into an ashtray.
