Fox classic RS2 solid umbrella

Fox_umbrella
Thomas Fox started selling umbrellas in London in 1868. And although he might be long gone, his umbrellas are still going strong, with much in common with those original designs – and with the same quality.

And hanging around the top of the range is this Fox RS2 solid umbrella. This solid, bark chestnut umbrella is made from one continuous piece of wood – which makes it as strong as a walking stick. It has a 25-inch frame, is 36 -inches in height and opens to a 50-inch diameter.

Available with a dark green nylon cover, the RS2 retails for £139.99. if that’s a bit rich, other quality Fox umbrellas are available for half the price.

Buler Jump Hour 1970s clear watch

Buler

The number of interesting watches produced in the 1970s seems endless. Just when you think you’ve seen them all, another head-turner comes along. And the latest for me is the Buler Jump Hour clear  watch.

Dating from the early 70s, it has an almost psychedelic pink/purple face with scrolling wheels showing the time as digits – as long as you remember to wind it up. Even better, the surround and strap are clear, so the watch is almost floating on your wrist.

Not a common timepiece, but you can pick one up at The Retro World watch site, priced at a very reasonable £50.

OiOi’s Hang On Honey Danish pendant light

Oioi
Oozing mid-century minimalist cool is this newly-launched Hang On Honey Danish pendant light.

It’s the work of Danish architect Niels ‘Rockabilly’ Rasmussen for his own company OiOi design company – and it’s taken two years for him to get it just right. There’s a range of bold colours available and the lamps all have a three-layer varnish for a superior finish, as well as a clever grip that connects directly to the bulb using silicone attachments.

If you want to add some cool to your living space, it retails for £160.

Alessi’s Hal Freddo porcelain snowman

Hal_snowman_2
Alessi has a ‘Top Design…Pop Price’ range of cool design for not much cash – and included in that range is this classic Hal Freddo porcelain snowman, designed by Massimo Giacon.

It’s just one of a number of classic Christmas items available, with this cute little fella an ideal seasonal ornament with his carrot nose and jaunty hat. And it’s a decent present too, sold in its own gift box.

Standing at 14.5cm high, it sells for a very affordable £8.

Space Invaders 30th anniversary luggage collection

Spacebag2
It’s apparently 30 years since the arcade classic Space Invaders was thrust upon an unsuspecting youth. And to celebrate, Taito is launching a luggage collection.

Not exactly what you would expect, but there’s no denying it’s very eye-catching. Everything from holdalls and shoppers through to smaller items like wallets and pouches – available in a range of colours, with each item packed with aliens, spaceships and explosions.

Now the bad news. Taito is so far only releasing its retro luggage in Japan. But if we all create enough of a buzz, they might just let the rest of us have some.
