Coast sideboard by Steuart Padwick

Coast-Sideboard04-550

Here's an attractive contemporary update of an everyday classic object courtesy of Steuart Padwick's Coast sideboard

The pleasingly chunky design looks back to mid-century designs but is brought into this century by the splash of colour on the two cupboard doors. Although the website states that you can get the doors in almost any colour, including a matching wood, the two options to order online are either the green pictured or a purple pair.

If you like the look of this, there's a chest of drawers, dresser, dining table and chair to follow in the same series.

The cost reflects the twenty-first century design credentials of the piece and would set you back £2245.

Hello Easy Chair

Hello_m2

The Hello Easy Chair, with its memorable name and distinctive shape, could easily be mistaken for a classic chair design. It was, however, designed in this century, although it has an unmistakable Scandinavian style.

The chairs was designed by Busk and Hertzog and according to one of its designers, its shape is “round, open and happy like a mouth calling out to people, asking them to come closer.” The chair was commissioned by the Danish Broadcast Corporation who wanted a chair especially for Kylie Minogue, which could be another selling point if you like the Australian pop star, but I wouldn’t hold it against the chair if you don’t.

The Hello Easy Chair is available from Heal’s, priced £895 with a choice of dark lilac, violet or anthracite coverings.

Designheure reissues 1970s Nonne ceiling light by Raoul Raba

Nonne

A minor classic of space age design is back on the market – the Nonne ceiling light by Raoul Raba, also known as the 'Nun'.

Dating back to 1972 and reissued by Designheure, it's a design typical of the era, but at the same time, very individual. Made from a single piece of metal, it offers up a curved, fluid shape that partly exposes the bulb and throws out a very distinctive shot of light.

That metal is lacquered steel and the price of the reissued light is £321 online.
