One of the better and cheaper versions of this design I’ve seen, but there’s a catch with the Retro Cassette Table by RJ Wood Projects.
It’s not something hidden; the maker is very upfront about it. You can buy it online, but they can’t deliver. You have to collect it yourself from the maker’s workshop. That’s the catch. Not a big one if you happen to live near Barnsley in South Yorkshire. More of an issue if you don’t.
But it is a superb design, which might make the road trip worth it. And priced well compared to the competition and in light of the quality.
You can see what it is – a coffee table based on a circa 1980s TDK cassette tape, recreated with exacting detail. Not just the label, but the details in the wood to recreate the tape design. Everything but the actual tape.
This cassette coffee table is made from the best quality furniture-grade Russian birch ply wood with steel hairpin legs, with a stained finish of two coats of briwax. The measurements are 570mm deep x 900mm wide x 350mm high. So substantial, which is perhaps why shipping might be difficult.
If you want one, £250 is the price, which isn’t bad for something with this amount of detail.
