Ross Littell 1960s Luar Chair

Icf

Not everything from he 1960s is big bold and plastic – some items have an understated, cool, like this Luar Chair from ICF, designed by Ross Littell.

Dating back to 1965, this timeless design (very much in the Merrow Associates style) will fit into more or less any home today, just like it did back in the day. For your money, you get a steel frame with the seat and backrest made from a choice of interwoven cotton or saddle hide bands.

Prices start at £1,095.

Girard Coffee Table for Knoll

Girardtable

Very different from the his La Fonda coffee table that we featured earlier in the year, Alexander Girard also designed a coffee table for Knoll.

This one dates back to 1948 and has a walnut veneer tabletop and an organic shape with one straight and one asymmetrical side. It can be positioned with either the straight or the asymmetrical edge facing the seating area, giving a large usable surface area without taking up too much floor space.

It is still produced by Knoll in line with the original specifications and can be ordered from Desigin Within Reach for $745 (approximately £370).

Jørn Utzon Opera suspension light

Opera_light

Does the light fitting above remind you of anything? The Sydney Opera House maybe? Well, that’s exactly what the Opera suspension light is based on.

This 70s-inspired light fitting is the work of Jørn Utzon, the same man who designed the Sydney Opera House. This time he has used those arcs to create a multi-shade light fitting that fires out an even flow of light in a variety of directions, as well as adding a bit of style to any room.

Made of white lacquered metal, the fitting is available now for £232.20.

Number 10 Downing Street door knocker

Downingstreet

I’m guessing few of us will ever enter Downing Street by the front door, but at least we can all have a bang on the number 10 Downing Street door knocker.

Ok, it’s not the actual Downing Street knocker, but it’s pretty much identical to the one made back in 1780. Roullier White tracked down the West Midlands-based brass foundry that made the original, found that the company still owned the original mould and got it to knock out (sorry) a few more.

And you can buy one of these handmade accessories in solid brass (like the original – which is painted black) for £45. Surely a timeless design classic.

Habitat offers classic 1970s Rodney Kinsman Omkstak chair

Omkstak

First introduced back in 1971, the Omstak chair (also known as the Omstack or OMK) is back on the high street today, courtesy of Habitat.

It’s the work of British designer Rodney Kinsman, who had the idea of producing a functional chair with a bit of character – which this light/stackable chair certainly offers. The chair itself has a tubular frame with perforated metal sheeting for the seat and back and if black isn’t your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that the new range comes in a much bolder red and white.

A timeless occasional or dining chair, you can pick them up for £139 each.
