Ercol Originals – pick up some mid-century classics

Ercol_originals

Ercol has been making furniture since 1920s, but it’s the 1950s under the spotlight for the Ercol Originals range.

As the name suggests, this is classic Ercol reissued, with a limited number of items available, including the Windsor dining table and the accompanying Butterfly chair above. Both were designed by company founder Lucian Ercolani, with the dining table dating back to 1956, made of beech and elm with a clear lacquer finish. The chair was first seen in 1958, available in beech/elm or beech/walnut, again with that clear lacquer finish.

Only available online, the table retails for £795, with a chair selling for £395.

babyC – space age cradle for your new-born child

Babyc

According to Puur, ‘babies need style too’. And they certainly get it with the company’s babyC.

It’s a cradle for your new-born pride and joy – and one that wouldn’t look out of place in the maternity ward of Moonbase Alpha. For style, there’s that white polyethylene finish, not to mention that glossy wood interior. And for comfort, there’s a purpose-made mattress and a rocking motion to ease your child to sleep.

Not cheap though – you can pick it up for 2,650 Euros.

Lunablocks – make your own life-sized Lego furniture

Lunablocks

Never mind making miniature models – with Lunablocks, you can make your own full-size Lego furniture.

The work of Thierry Nahon and Philippe Landecker from Lunatic Construction, the blocks come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours, all soft enough for your kids to play with, but sturdy enough to use in home design – supporting a glass table surface in the above example.

On the face of it, they aren’t expensive either, with prices starting at 14 Euros. But chances are you’ll need a few to build a coffee table or shelving unit, so maybe get the calculator out first.

School Chaise – based on an old school chair

School_chaise

Remember the old plastic school chairs? They are the inspiration behind this newly-launched lounger – the School Chaise.

In fact, this design by Guy Brown for Farm is every bit the school chair, but with ‘distorting elements’, making it more of a lazy lounger than an upright seat, not to mention an eye-catching piece of interior design.

How this orange and black Chaise will actually feel to sit in is anyone’s guess – but I suggest you try before you buy with a price tag of £1,800.
