Concept Coverings – hip retro wallpapers

Concept_wallcoverings

Another contender for your walls is this selection of modern, but very retro wallpaper from Darwen-based Concept Coverings.

There’s a wide selection available beyond the examples pictured – and if the colours don’t quite fit the bill, you can have the paper re-coloured to your own requirements.

Prices are around £45 per square metre. Also worth checking out their canvas prints and wall squares too.

Ruby Cube – Rubik’s Cube table

Ruby_cube

Yes, more Rubik’s-related design, this time the Ruby Cube, designed by J.P. Meulendijks.

It’s a side table, made of MDF and special acrylic plates – all the same colour, but rather cleverly changing colour depending on the angle it’s viewed from. So you always get the chequered effect wherever you are in the room.

It retails for $399 (around £200). Delivery is included for US and Canada, rest of world delivery is available, email them for price.

Mskyo granny-style trolley speakers

Granny_speaker
I love unusual design, but Mskyo is the oddest thing I’ve encountered in ages.

Essentially it’s one of those trolleys that older women drag around the shops, complete with wheels, handle and tartan cloth finish. Except this one is a little different – it’s a powerful sound system, not unlike the good old ghetto blaster.

Made by German design company Classen and Partner, there’s no details of price as yet, just a cryptic "get in touch" message if you’re interested. Or indeed, if your granny is interested in livening up her trip to the shops.

Massimo Vignelli Max 365 calendar

Max365
Once Christmas is out of the way, it’s time to ponder the new year – and buying a new calendar. So why not invest in a calendar that will cover you every year – like the Max 365 calendar, designed by Massimo Vignelli and produced by Nava Milano.

It’s pretty straightforward – a daily perpetual calendar, with each day just a flip away. But better than that, it’s an incredibly bold piece of design that jumps off a wall. It’s got a look reminiscent of the 60s – except it’s not. The plastic calendar was only introduced in 1980.

Available to buy online, you can pick one up for £36.

Evan Hecox retro guitar skateboards

Hecox_skateboards

Right now, skateboard decks seem to be a good place to look for some cool retro artwork. While we wait for the hisknibs-designed skateboards next year, check out these retro guitar skateboards from Evan Hecox.

Renowned US artist/illustrator Hecox has designed these decks for skateboard firm Chocolate. All feature a classic guitar model – I’ll certainly be picking up the Vox Teardrop guitar.

The one drawback is finding them for sale – so far I haven’t seen them in any stores or retailing online. But when they appear, they’re likely to retail for around £50.

Sainsburys’ retro circular candle

Circular_candle
Just spotted over on the Sainsburys website (which has recently undergone something of a facelift) is this rather interesting Abstract Circles Pillar candle.

Cadles aren’t something we get excited about, but the pattern on this one looks not unlike vinyl records in several shades and sizes. And as it’s both winter and Christmas, you’ve got every excuse to light a few around the house.

It also retails for just £2.49 – so you price shouldn’t be an issue either.
