Saturn retro table lamp

Saturn_table
We’ve covered a lot of lamps recently, but we make no excuses for that – the nights are long and the temperatures are dropping – good lighting is something everyone needs.

And an example of good lighting is this Saturn retro table lamp. It’s a new piece, but very much in the late 60s/early 70s space age style and in a choice of black and white (black featured here because it pictures better – white is probably the best choice for a period 60s look).

Available from US firm Eurway for $149 (around £75). They do online sales for US customers, the rest of us need to email for a shipping cost.

Rondo – the retro-styled cat bed

Rondo_catbed
After recently featuring the Le Corbusier dog bed, it seemed unfair to leave cats out – so here’s a superb retro-styled home for your feline friend – the Rondo cat bed.

With a design that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the late 60s/early 70s, the Rondo would sit nicely next to your tulip table, featuring a similar stand in brushed stainless steel and a choice of homes in either felt, wicker or leather. There’s also a colour choice of cushions, with replacements available when it starts to get a bit worn.

Available from Cat Interiors, they retail for around £400. Well, style doesn’t come cheap, even for a cat.

Sofie Refer Bulb pendant lamp

Bulb_pendant
Yesterday we featured the Lampadina lamp by Achille Castiglioni, a table lamp based on a traditional bulb. Well, if you’re looking for something similar for the ceiling, check out the Bulb pendant lamp by Sofie Refer.

Unlike the Lampadina lamp, this is a recent (and award-winning) design from 2001, using a traditional clear bulb and light fitting, but adding a glass casing around it in the shape of the bulb. Certain to be a classic of the future, but with a definite hint of the past.

You can pick it up for around £50.

eBay Watch: Boat-shaped cocktail bar

Boatbar
If you wander round the junk shops (as we often do), you’ll certainly see a boat-shaped cocktail bar on your travels, typically like this one currently on eBay.

As cheesy as it comes, you can pretend to be the captain of the ship, whilst at the same time throwing together a couple of cocktails or pouring a warm beer. The glass is real, there’s plenty of storage down below, along with a bottle opener and lights.

This one has a slightly optimistic starting price of £150 – if that’s a bit rich, keep checking those junk shops.

Achille Castiglioni’s Lampadina lamp

Lampadina
More strange and wonderful lighting, this time courtesy of Achille Castiglioni and his Lampadina lamp, which dates back to 1971, but is still available to buy today.

Treading a similar path to the Ingo Maurer Bulb table lamp, it also goes for the bulb look, with a bakelite coloured bulb holder, clear globe bulb and an anodised aluminium base shaped like a film reel for storing the excess cable.

For a classic piece of design, it’s not too expensive either, priced around £55.
