iRetrofone Base – turn your iPhone into something vintage

Iretrophone

Yes, that is an iPhone in the picture, house in something called an iRetrofone Base, the work of Freeland Studios.

The iRetrofone Base is handmade, sculpted and casted one at a time from resin, which probably accounts for the waiting list for one – around two weeks before each is shipped. It is designed to be compatible with all iphones, offering you some good old-fashioned handset action in your home, rather than having to slap that touchscreen to your ear.

It can also charge and sync with a computer (if you throw a USB into the mix) and is available via the company’s Etsy site, priced at $195.

John Lewis Retro DAB radio

Johnlewis_retro

We have featured specialist John Lewis-branded DAB radios in the past (the bedside DAB and the kitchen DAB to be specific), but the John Lewis Retro DAB radio is an all-rounder, complete with a budget price.

Retro by name and retro by design, an understated glossy case with metal grill, reminiscent of radios from a bygone age. But obviously with that very modern DAB digital radio reception, along with 20 presets, FM reception, a built-in clock and the option of battery or mains power.

Cheap enough at £29.95.

Nintendo NES cartridge harmonicas at Etsy

Nesharm

Here's a great spot of recycling – using old game cartridges to make musical instruments – the work of NESharmonica.

As the name suggests, these are old Nintendo NES cartridges, but mixed with  a Hohner harmonica tuned to the key of E to produce the novelty instrument.  They even throw in some instructions and sheet music, plus the original circuit board that features the game. Well, you never know when nostalgia takes hold.

Take your pick from a variety of games (including the Zelda pictured here), with prices starting at $24.99.
